Today Fujitsu announced that they have developed a new super HDD with a 9.5mm profile that packs 250GB of storage space onto the small 5400 rpm 2.5” drive. The high storage capacity was reached by using perpendicular writing technology similar to that Seagate used with their 750GB drive.
Jujitsu expects to begin selling the MHY2 BH series drives during Q2 of 2007 with a target market of global makers of mobile computers and consumer electronics. Not only is this small drive packed with storage space, but it has a low noise level of 2.4 bels (1 bel is 10 decibels) and only needs 1.9 watts or less of power to operate.
Geeks in Europe will see these drives in their electronic gear as well thanks to RoHS compliance. "The MHY2250BH series expands the storage capacity of mobile products in step with the surging growth of multimedia content and the rapidly changing mobile environment, while delivering the reliability that has made Fujitsu a technology leader in the industry for more than 35 years," said Joel Hagberg, vice president, marketing and business development, Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc. "Fujitsu mobile hard drives are well known in the industry for their exceptional performance and reliability, and our latest high- capacity SATA drive is another clear win for the company and industry."
