Japanese company scalar has productized their tiny lightweight head mounted display solution.
We reported about the Scalar Teleglass HMD the first time in 2005. The President of Scalar (photo) has now a better hair cut and the video glasses look more practical too.
The Teleglass T3-F creates a virtual 28-inch display projected 2m ahead of the wearer. The display unit is mounted on standard eyeglasses and can slide to the side.
The 35g light display uses a .24inch QVGA resolution LCD panel. A newly developed prism lens creates the projection. The resolution is still very low.
The Teleglass T3-F is powered by 2 AA batteries in the controller unit. The HMD sells for 98,000 yen (~$806). Scalar sells the Teleglass T3-F direct on their site.
Scalar plans to sell 3,000 units this year and targets commuters, but also professionals. A cheaper mass market model is supposed to come in 2008.
