With the release of the 1.80 firmware update for PS3 yesterday adding DVD upscaling all the way to 1080p to the PS3’s bag of tricks it got me to thinking, can we tell the difference between 1080i and 1080p?
I have tested 1080p sets before but haven’t had 1080p and 1080i sets available at the same time to do a side-by-side comparison of the two. I can say that from my time with 1080p sets and my time with 1080i sets that they look pretty much the same to me.
To settle this for myself I need to see 1080i an d1080p side by side. Perhaps the difference is bigger than what I think. I know Olevia was showing off a higher refresh rate TV at CES this year and if I hadn’t seen the demo I wouldn’t think moving from 60Hz to 100Hz would make a difference, when in fact it made a huge difference in image quality.
Therefore, I wanted to put the question to our readers here at I4U News. Can you tell the difference between 1080i and 1080p? If you can tell a difference, what differences do you see? Let me know what you think and we might post your response for others to see.
