The Amish, a Christian religious sect known for not adopting modern technology has discovered Solar as energy source.
The New Scientist reports that in Holmes County, Ohio, where the largest Amish community lives, 80% of the families have solar panels.
They use the solar produced electrical energy to power lights, sewing machines and charging batteries for their horse buggies. It is important to the Amish not to be connected to the power grid. Solar is a clean and safe way to have an independent power supply.
With the Chinese Solar Phone, the Amish could even start using the mobile phone network.
