Shares of Netflix Inc. jumped Wednesday because of a rumor that Amazon.com Inc. would buy the DVD rental service.
Analysts expect that Amazon would have to pay about $1.5 billion for Netflix.
Netflix and Blockbuster are battling hard for leadership in the DVD rental by mail business.
Amazon and Netflix combined would be a tough nut to crack for Blockbuster.
