Serious home theater buffs that want to ditch the letterbox black bars around their images and get the real 2.35 cinemascope aspect ratio from their existing digital projector, Schneider Optics has the way.
Schneider Optics announced today an add on lens that enables 16:9 projectors to create sharp 2.35:1 image using ever pixel your projector has. "One of the last technical issues attenuating the true movie experience at home was the ability to fully display superwide 2.35:1 images," explained Schneider Optics CEO Dwight Lindsey. "The Cine-Digitar Anamorphic Lens eliminates wasted screen space, and enables home theatre users to project Cinemascope the way professionals do, unleashing the image power of every pixel in the projector to deliver the full impact of what the cinematographer intended to present."
I say this is a product for serious home theater buffs because the lens carries a $4200 MSRP. That price is likely to be more than what your average projector owner spent on the projector. If the price does not scare you away, it seems you are sure to get a more theater like viewing experience with this lens attached. Via Schneider Optics
