When I think of military robots, I think of sinister devices replete with gatling guns and rocket launchers. Imagine my disappointment when I find out that the army prefers a cuddly looking bear robot that looks like Johnny 5’s and Teddy Ruxpin’s love child.
While it may not look like a military robot, it is intended to serve a noble purpose, removing downed soldiers from harms way. Sending a medic into the line of fire could result in two downed soldiers.
This Bear robot will roll out and pick up the wounded solider and carry him to safety. It seems to me that a robot picking up a man from the battlefield would draw some attention and gunfire from the enemy.
Bear can life 300 pounds with one arm, so even if the solider is more like John Candy from Stripes bear can do the job. Supposedly, field trials are planned for 5 years from now. Via Sci fi Tech
