Sharp developed the world's smallest digital TV tuner. The small module works with Japanese Seg-1 terrestrial digital broadcast (Wansegu).
The Sharp TV tuner module measures only 7.3×7.3×1.25mm. This is small enough that Scalar could integrate it right away into their ultra-lightweight Head mounted displays.
Sharp also managed to design the VA3A5JZ912 tuner module to use only 85mW of power. This should increase the battery life when watching TV on a mobile phone.
The mass production will start in September 2007. Sharp plans to make 1 million units per month.
