Google threatens to shut down GMail in Germany

Google has many critics about the amount of data they know about us. The company gets attacked (see this recent reports: report 1, report 2, report 3) from many sides in regards to privacy issues.
Now Google is acting proactive in Germany. They threaten to shut down the German Gmail email service if the new law that requires providers to store all email traffic and make it users identifiable goes into affect.
Google says that users’ rights need to be protected to enable them to keep anonymous email accounts.
