The cute Star Wars robot R2-D2 is still not out of fashion and new replicas are appearing in regular frequency. The Japanese Nikko Group is now actually getting very close to a R2D2 replica that can do things the movie version is able to do.
The new Nikko R2-D2 robot replica is a full DVD player with integrated LCD projector. An iPod dock and memory card reader is also integrated into this advanced R2-D2 replica. With a Falcon Millennium shaped remote you can actually let the robot roam around your place.
This much functionality has its price. The Nikko R2-D2 DVD projector will sell for 388 000 Yen (~3,141).
Nikko also offers a light saber shaped wireless video camera as accessory for the R2-D2. The Star Wars gadget can also be used as Skype phone and as remote control for the R2-D2.
Chances are not too bad that Nikko will release this R2-D2 also outside of Japan. They are an international toy company. Meccano is for instance also part of the Nikko Group.
