The Writers Guild of America is a generic term referring to the joint efforts of two different organizations: the Writers Guild of America, East and the Writers Guild of America, west. Jointly, the two Guilds act as the collective bargaining representative for writers in the motion picture and television industries in the United States and also host an annual awards show. Nearly all of the writers at major movie studios and television networks are in the Writers Guilds of America.[citation needed]
