I’m not the pink type of guy leaning more towards manly hues. That said I did use this headset quite a bit, only from the comfort of my computer chair rather than on the go like I normally do. My wife lived the pink color though and quickly confiscated the BT400GL post testing and I haven’t seen again. The pink color matches well with the pink Razr phones and Bluetake does make a silver version for the guys. Pairing to the Razr was a snap and showed no issues at all. The headset is compatible with both Bluetooth 1.1 and 1.2 devices. The BT400GL weighs only 8.6g and measures in at 39mm L x 17.5mm W x 12mm H. This is the smallest headset that I have seen and is about half as along as my favorite Plantronics Discovery 655.
One of the coolest features of the BT400GL is the portable charger. A battery inside the charge pocket can charge the headset when on the go and away from the AC outlet. Bluetake also includes a lanyard strap so that you can wear the charge pocket around your neck, though I think most will simply carry the BT400GL and the portable charger in a pocket or purse.
Bluetake claims a 15 hour talk time when using the portable charger, and I verified that number in testing. Range is very good on the headset too, I was able to walk around my home without my phone in hand and still talk. Hands-free profile is supported as well as headset profile. Call quality with the BT400GL was good, not the best I have used, but good none the less. I still find that the Discovery 655 offers the best sound quality around. I had a few people tell me that I sounded like I was calling from inside a box. That said I could her fine from my side on the calls I made and the quality was good. The BT400GL also has controls on the top for volume and answering calls. You can transfer calls from the headset to the phone with the controls as well as initiate redial. You can also use this headset to initiate voice activated calling by pushing the center button and saying the name of the person you are calling, assuming your phone supports voice activated calling.
I did like the small size of the BT400GL and it was very comfortable to wear. Bluetake includes three soft tips for the earpiece so that you can customize the fit to your liking. I used the standard size while my wife used the smallest. I never felt that the BT400GL was going to fall out of my ear, which is important with an earpiece that has no over the ear clip to keep it in place. One of the coolest parts of the BT400GL is the price; the MSRP on the BT400GL is only $69.99.
