Right out of the box the Logitech ChillStream for PS3 is hands down the most comfortable PS3 controller to hold that I have used. I like the ergonomics of the ChillStream even more than the standard Sixaxis PS3 controller. Logitech kept with the standard design and didn’t make gamers have to think when it came to button layout by putting the L1, L2, R1, R2 buttons in the common stacked layout we are all used to, unlike Thrustmaster did with their Run’N’ Drive 3 in 1 gamepad.

My Logitech ChillStream for PS3 review sample has a high gloss piano black case that looks just like the case on my PS3. The downside to all that shine is that finger prints and smudges show up quite badly. The D-pad is just what you expect and where you expect it as are the main buttons with the familiar colors and shapes and the dual analog sticks that click for R3 and L3.

What you will readily notice that is quite different design wise are the soft, rubber slots that adorn the front and rear of the hand grips. These allow the air that the fan hidden under the silver mesh on the rear of the Logitech ChillStream for PS3 puts out to be directed towards your sweaty palms. Any gamer who has spent marathon sessions playing their favorite game has had a run in with sweaty palms. This phenomenon is not only gross but it can affect your grip on the controller and ultimately cost you the game.

The fan inside the Logitech ChillStream for PS3 has three settings including off, low and high. It moves a significant amount of air and does a fantastic job of keeping your hands cool and sweat free. The downside to this fan is that on high it produces a whine similar (thought not as loud) to what your hair dryer makes. This whine can be annoying, but overall it is bearable and if the sound is too bothersome you can opt for low setting which is much quieter or just turn the fan off altogether.

Gaming Tests
I used the Logitech ChillStream for PS3 extensively and it performed very well for the most part. I did notice that the Logitech ChillStream for PS3 I received seemed to have a problem with the R1 and L1 triggers. When playing Full Auto 2 I noticed that when I hit the trigger for the throttle frequently the car would not move. I would have to let off the trigger and hit it again to get the car to move. The game did not do this on the Sixaxis controller or the Thrustmaster Run’N’ Drive 3 in 1 so whatever the problem was is limited to this Logitech ChillStream for PS3 controller alone. The only other issue I have with the Logitech ChillStream for PS3 is that the cord is a bit too short for real living rooms. At only about six feet you will be stuck sitting on the floor not your couch while gaming most likely.
