The USB dongle is a full size unit that sticks out of your notebook quite a bit when connecter and uses 2.4GHz technology. The wireless receiver slips into a dock on the bottom of the mouse for storage and when you dock the receiver it turns the mouse off so no battery power is used. Power is provided by a pair of AA batteries with a claimed life span of up to one year.

V450 in Use
I used the Logitech V450 Laser Cordless Mouse for Notebooks extensively when I was at E3 this month. I found that the mouse did indeed track well and had smooth cursor movement and was very accurate no matter the surface I used it on. I used the mouse on a glossy desktop, a faux wood table, a while cotton table cloth and my pant leg and all surfaces worked just fine with the mouse.

In the hand the Logitech V450 Laser Cordless Mouse for Notebooks feels nice with contoured sides allowing you to grip it quite easily. They size is a bit smaller than what I am used to with desktop mice, but it was comfortable to use.

I found that removing the wireless receiver from the bottom of the mouse was a bit difficult to do at times, it locks in quite well. This is also a good thing because it keeps the receiver from falling out accidentally and getting lost or running your mouse batteries down sooner than expected.

The scroll wheel offers the familiar feeling click as it moves through its travel. The one thing I really missed on the Logitech V450 Laser Cordless Mouse for Notebooks was side buttons for navigating online. I found myself tapping the side of the mouse trying to go back a page a few times during my use of the mouse.

The Logitech V450 Laser Cordless Mouse for Notebooks uses Logitech SetPoint software which allows you to map the mouse buttons to other functions if you desire. You can also set the cursor speed here which makes it move faster across the screen. At higher cursor speeds accuracy is affected.

The Logitech V450 Laser Cordless Mouse for Notebooks is compatible with Windows 98, 2000, ME, XP and Vista as well as Mac OSX 10.2.8 and up. Logitech even includes the pair of AA batteries needed and includes a 3-year warranty.
