If you don’t have headphone or mic jacks on your notebook you can still use the Logitech Premium Notebook Headset thanks to the included analog to USB adapter that allows the use of both mic and headphones via one USB port. The headphones are designed to work with both Windows and Mac computers.

The mic rotates to get the ideal position near your mouth and the Logitech Premium Notebook Headset feature an adjustable behind-the-head design. The headband is a fixed length, but the ear pieces themselves slide back and forth through about half an inch of travel to allow for a bit of customization. The design Logitech chose uses neither ear cups or in ear style earbuds. Rather the speakers sit on the surface of your ear like old school headphones from a Walkman.

The speakers are covered in foam for comfort and have a frequency response of 20-20,000 Hz and a cable length of 1.8m. Logitech also packages the Logitech Premium Notebook Headset with a carry case to take on the road. The case is about 2-inches thick, 7-inhces wide and 5-inches wide. It is constructed out of a hard plastic making it a safe place for the fold-flat headphones.

Installation & Testing
Installation of the Logitech Premium Notebook Headset is simple; no drivers are required when plugged directly into your computer or when using the USB adapter. Simply plug them in via either method and they work. My Windows XP test machine recognized the headphones immediately as did my MacBook.

Sound quality is impressive; the Logitech Premium Notebook Headset has decent levels of bass along with crisp highs and mids. Volume levels are good; I found anything higher than mid way up the inline volume controller was uncomfortable in my use. The mic works well and provides good voice quality when used for VOIP with Skype or Trillian.

The only real issues I have with the Logitech Premium Notebook Headset center on the comfort of the earphones. The way they lay on top of your ears gets uncomfortable with extended use. They trap heat and press on your outer ear. Since these headphone lie on the surface of your ear, they also let more sound escape than designs using ear cups or in ear earbuds that keep sounds in. The design of the Logitech Premium Notebook Headset also allows external sounds in more than other designs, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

That means that if you are listening in an area where you need to be able to hear what’s going on around you, the Logitech Premium Notebook Headset allows that. However, if you are using them somewhere, which has many other sounds, like an airplane, that you want to block out the Logitech Premium Notebook Headset doesn’t do a great job of blocking external sounds.
