The Spotlight uses a high output .5 watt LED bulb and has a 6061 anodized aluminum body. Power for the light comes from a rechargeable Ni-MH battery and charging is done in most 12 volt automotive power outlets. When charging the Spotlight has a red glow around the bezel to let you know it’s getting power from the power source; no red glow means no charging. The length of the device is under 2-inches and the weight is 1.6 ounces. The manufacturer claims 120 minutes of light per charge and a full charge takes 7 hours. The light is water resistant and can be submerged as well. Five different color choices are available and I was sent gold, purple and a pink Spotlights for testing.

In Use
Any parent has spent some time digging around under the set of the car, in the trunk or the glove box for a kid’s toy or something that just has to be found. The problem is that kids (and adults) never misplace things in well lit areas. The problem is that most flashlights are bulky and they always seem to run out of battery power right when you need them.

This tiny little flashlight recharges in the cigarette lighter adapter of most cars. Not the cigarette lighter adapter. While the accessory port on my Nissan Murano looks the same as the cigarette lighters cars used to have the little light doesn’t fit. The diameter is too small and the light falls right back out. This isn’t the deal breaker that it seems to be at first glance, merely a nuisance.

Spotlight makes some accessories for the light including one called a Super Socket that fits all 12-volt accessory outlets and provides an additional power outlet so you can still plug in your GPS or satellite radio with one outlet. If you want to charge the Spotlight in your home there is also a Home Helper that plugs into an AC outlet and charged the light. If you need your hands free for working under the car or hood a Fender Friend is offered as well that has a magnetic base and a flexible neck for holding the light.

With the small size and single LED you might expect light output to be on the low side—you would be wrong. The spotlight is as bright as the larger dual D-cell powered flashlights you commonly see in homes. The Spotlight is easy to turn on and has no external buttons. To turn the light on and off you rotate the bezel.

Cars never break down in good weather in my experience and the spotlight is water resistant and can even be submerged. There is a drawback to the small size of the Spotlight though, it’s easy to lose. Toss this thing in a junk drawer or crowded glove box and you might need a Spotlight to find your Spotlight.
