The Hot Wheels Turbo Driver Controller is a USB gamepad that has to connect to a laptop or desktop computer to work. The controller is simple to use with a small blue joystick on the left to provide directional control for the games. On the right side of the controller are a red button and a green button that are use for making the car on screen go or stop. In the middle of the controller is a dock for the Car-Tridge cars.

In Use
Car-Tridges aren't like the video game cartridges of yore they sound like because they don’t offer new games when docked. The main game intended for use with the Hot Wheels Turbo Driver Controller is a driving game called Race The World that offers eight different tracks. There are eight Car-Tridges and when they are plugged into the controller, the player gets the car on screen. Each of the eight Car-Tridges has special attributes that are ideal for a specific track in the game. The Hot Wheels Turbo Driver Controller can also be used to play games on HotWheels.com as well.

Installing the Hot Wheels Turbo Driver Controller requires only that you plug in the USB connector to your computer. The game appears to be built into the controller since there is no lengthy download process. As you expect, graphics aren’t top notch, but if your kid plays HotWheels.com games, the graphics are about the same as they are used to.

The controls are easy to use and the game itself is simple and easy for kids to master. The biggest downfall of the Hot Wheels Turbo Driver Controller is that the Car-Tridges are a bit difficult to install. My seven year old has a hard time aligning the securing mechanisms on the Car-Tridge and the controller. I typically have to help him do that part.
