Features & Specifications
The AAXA P1 Pico Projector has a native resolution of 640 x 480 and brightness is a mere 12 lumens. The contrast ratio is 1000:1 and it puts out 25dB of noise. The lens has manual focus and it can project an image 7 to 50-inches. The lamp is a single chip white LED with 30,000 hours of runtime. Onboard speakers have 0.5w of power and a headphone jack is integrated.

Overall dimensions of the projector are 105mm x 58mm x 26mm and it weighs 180g. Power comes from an AC outlet or an integrated rechargeable battery. Supported file formats include MP4, MP3, WMA, OGG, WAV, AVI, WMV, SMV, BMP, JPG, GIF, and TXT. Connectivity features include composite AV, USB, and a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack. An optional cable is available providing iPhone and iPod connectivity. A microSD card reader is built-in and the device has 1GB of internal memory.

In Use
The tiny projector is very impressive looking with its small form factor that is very easily portable. The small size of the projector is the main selling point and much better than having to lug around a full size projector if you are a mobile worker that gives presentations. The AAXA P1 Pico Projector can fit easily into most laptop bags or brief cases.

Connectivity options are good enough for how the projector will be used, namely to show laptop presentations or movies and from the iPhone or iPod to give video a large image than the small screen on the devices. For testing, I used the optional iPhone cable that connects to the charge port on the iPhone. To get video to display via the projector rather than on screen was automatic and required no input from me. Once the cable was connected, the projector simply did its thing.

As tiny as the AAXA P1 Pico Projector is you can’t expect massive levels of brightness. With only 12 lumens you need a very dark room to really get the full benefit of the projector. In a room during the day with the blinds closed, it was very hard to make out details in the video. However, move to a dark room with no windows or light and the projectors makes for crisp colors and good image quality. As tiny as the projector is, I expected there to be some issues with stuttering with full motion video.

While watching YouTube video and other video content from my iPhone I noticed no tearing, no stuttering and no real issues with video playback. The puny 0.5w internal speakers are woefully underpowered and offered virtually unintelligible sound during my testing. To be able to clearly hear any audio on the videos I watched I had to use earphones.

When using earphones the sound output was much more robust, in fact on some videos the volume was too high. I was unable to get my review sample to control the volume when playing from the iPhone either with the iPhone or with the projector itself. The volume buttons on the projector appear to work only when playing content form the projectors internal memory or the microSD card slot.
