Specifications
The Shure SE115 Sound Isolating Earphones have dynamic microspeaker II speakers with a sensitivity of 105dB SPL/mW, an impedance of 16 ohms, a frequency range of 22Hz to 17.5kHz, and a cable length of 18-inches or 54-inches with the extension. The earphones come in black, red, blue, and pink colors. A fit kit is also included with multiple ear tips to choose from.

In Use
I was testing the Shure SE115 Sound Isolating Earphones and the Ultimate Ears 700 earphones at the same time and while the Ultimate Ears 700 earphones are much more expensive, I will compare the two a bit. One of the things that I really liked about the Shure SE115 Sound Isolating Earphones is that the cable is modular. If you use your MP3 player for working out and keep it in an armband, having a long cable can be a nuisance. The modular cable is an extension that you can plug into the short 18-inch cable to make the cable length 54-inches long when needed. The long cable gives plenty of room for those who keep their MP3 player in their pocket.

As you expect with any high-end earphones, which the $119.99 Shure SE115 Sound Isolating Earphones certainly are, is multiple ear tip choices. The Shure SE115 Sound Isolating Earphones come with a Fit Kit that provides small, medium, and large Flex and Black Foam ear tips to choose from. The different sizes and materials provide a custom fit and help improve sound quality. A carry case is also included with the earphones.

One of the things that I really love about the Ultimate Ears 700 is the very small size and lightweight of the earphones themselves. The Shure SE115 Sound Isolating Earphones are much larger than the Ultimate Ears 700, and heavier to wear. The Shure SE115 Sound Isolating Earphones are not uncomfortable to wear, but I found that with heavy exertion when I got sweaty the Shure SE115 Sound Isolating Earphones fell out of my ears a few times when I moved around. I felt like I had to keep pressing the earphones back into my ears.

I keep my iPhone in my pocket when I exercise and the 18-inch cable was too short. At the same time, the 54-inch cable with the extension in place was too long. I kept getting the cable caught on equipment around the gym and had to coil the cable and poke it into my pocket.

Sound quality is the important part of any earphones, and the Shure SE115 Sound Isolating Earphones offer very good sound quality. The bass output wasn't as deep as the Ultimate Ears 700 earphones, but the SE115 earphones did offer more bass than some of the other earphones I have used over the years. When you consider that the Shure SE115 Sound Isolating Earphones cost about $100 less than the Ultimate Ears 700 earphones less bass is easy enough to overlook.

Mid and high range sounds were crisp and clear and short of wishing for a bit more bass the sound quality from the Shure SE115 Sound Isolating Earphones is top notch. Sound quality with the SE115 earphones is so much better than the stock earphones that come with the iPhone that there is no comparison.
