Specifications Installation and Use Setting the Logitech Harmony Adapter for PS3 up involves plugging the adapter into an AC outlet and navigating the PS3 menu to the set up remotes section of the system. Once the PS3 is looking for new remotes you simply press the red connect button on the bottom of the adapter and it connects to the PS3. Setting up your remote to interface with the Logitech Harmony Adapter for PS3 is slightly more involved. You have to launch the Harmony program on your computer and connect the remote via USB to the computer. If the PS3 is already installed on your remote, you have to delete it. When you add the PS3 console back to the remote it will tell you that the Logitech Harmony Adapter for PS3 is needed to control the PS3. The updated settings for controlling the PS3 via the adapter will be installed and once the remote is updated, you are ready to go. Before the Logitech Harmony Adapter for PS3 launched I had an activity for playing the PS3 set up on the remote so that I could change the inputs and then turn the console on with the PS3 controllers. The problem with that was when my son played the console he would often go back to TV watching mode without turning the console off first. That meant if I didn’t want to take the time to go back to the PS3 mode so I could see what I was doing, I had to hold the power button down and force the PS3 to shut off. On my first generation PS3 that often makes the console lose the settings for video and audio which can cause some issues at time with turning the machine on and getting no video or sound and having to go through some set up procedures again. Now with the Logitech Harmony Adapter for PS3 when I hit the play PS3 activity not only do the inputs change, but the PS3 now comes on as well. The best part is that when someone changes from PS3 mode to TV mode the console is automatically shut off -- correctly -- so the settings aren’t messed up. Now when using the remote I can do anything the PS3 menu offers from my Harmony remote. Previously I had all my components programmed to my Harmony, but the PS3 still required a controller or the Blu-ray remote to operate. Now I can truly have only one remote for my entire home theater, PS3 and all. That makes the Logitech Harmony Adapter for PS3 well worth the $59.99 asking price. The only possible issue I could see is that you need a dedicated AC outlet for the Logitech Harmony Adapter for PS3 power adapter. These can be hard to come by if you have lots of components in your home theater. What I would prefer to see is the type of pass through power adapter Thrustmaster uses on some of its accessories that gives power from the AC cord going into the PS3. Still, the AC outlet is infinitely better than needing a USB port to power the adapter.
