Features
The Wireless Desktop 3000 includes a BlueTrack mouse and a wireless keyboard that use 2.4GHz technology for connectivity. Both the mouse and the keyboard have battery status indicators. The mouse uses the new BlueTrack technology to allow for better tracking and more accuracy on most surfaces.

The keyboard has a wealth of features including spill resistant keys. Microsoft builds water drain channels into the keyboard to help liquids drain away from the internals of the keyboard to prevent damage. The keys are thin profile and use quiet touch technology. Media center computer users will be able to use the Wireless Desktop 3000 from across the room thanks to a 30-foot wireless range and a full assortment of media center control keys for video playback.

The keyboard is also chocked full of shortcut and hot keys that any heavy office user will find very useful. Many of the keyboard shortcuts are built into Microsoft Office, but many people don’t know they exist. With the Wireless Desktop 3000 keyboard, each key is printed with the function it performs in Office when used with the control key. Hotkeys for one-touch access to email, My Documents, IM, and photos are also included.

In Use
The mouse included with the Wireless Desktop 3000 is sized more like a notebook mouse than a typical desktop mouse which means it is more compact that some mice on the market. The mouse isn’t too small though and feels good in the hand. On the bottom of the mouse is a compartment to snap the wireless receiver in for transport. Microsoft claims that the mouse is good for up to 8 months of battery life per set of AA batteries. Four-way scroll and five programmable buttons are offered on the mouse as well.

In use, the mouse tracks well and works with or without a mouse pad. The BlueTrack technology allows the mouse to track on a variety of surfaces form a shiny desktop to your pants leg and many other surfaces in between. The keyboard has nicely sized keys that are spaced well and offer decent tactile feedback.

I typically type on a Logitech illuminated Keyboard and it offers typing feel that is among the best I have ever tested. The Wireless Desktop 3000 keyboard falls short of the mark set by the Logitech keyboard, but it is decent. The keys are quiet but lack the tactile feel of some keyboards I have used.
