Specifications
The Nica Bluetooth headset has a compact design that is open and has nothing that sticks inside your ear canal. The clip used to secure the headset to your ear is spring loaded. Noise cancelling technology is built-in and the headset has a 13mm speaker. A magnetic docking attachment is included and a car dock is sold separately. Calls can be received while the device is charging and power comes from a lithium polymer battery. Talk time is four hours with 150 hours on standby. Range is up to 30 feet.

In Use
The Nica Bluetooth headset has a different design than most of the Bluetooth headsets I have used before. Rather than having a cushion or tip that sticks into your ear, the Nica headset is round and fits totally on the outside of your ear. The design makes it easier to hear outside sounds and talk to passengers in your car without blocking your hearing.

The sprint loaded ear clip holds the Nica Bluetooth headset securely to your ear and I was able to wear the device for extended periods comfortably. The device has a sliding dedicated power switch to turn it on and off rather than a button that you have to hold for longer periods.

The desktop charging dock is a slick piece of technology that looks like something Apple would sell. The charger is magnetic, you simply sit the Nica on top and it is grabbed and changed automatically. Maverick also sent along its slick car charger that plugs into the DC outlet on your car and magnetically holds the Nica for charging on the road.

When close to the phone the call quality is excellent. As the distance from the phone increases, I noticed a slight popping sound in the speaker during testing. The noise reduction works well. I tested the Nica in my convertible while driving down the road. At low speeds with the top down the Nica offers excellent call quality. Up until about 50 mph, you can carry on a conversation without any issues. At speeds above 50mph wind noise makes it difficult for the person you call to hear your voice.

Battery life for the device was right at four hours during testing. The wireless range is good; you can walk around your home while on a call and still have connectivity. The only issue was the popping sound that I noticed at long ranges during testing.

The DC car charger is a very slick little device. Not only does it allow you to charge your Nica on the road and hold the device for storage, the top can flip up revealing an extra DC outlet that you can plug your mobile phone DC charger into allowing for the charging of two devices at once. The Nica device is also always on when on the charger, you simply pick it up and put it on your ear to answer a call if it is charging.
