Specifications
The BluePack S3 is a 2600mA polymer lithium battery that promises to add 72 hours of playtime to iPods. The device includes a mini USB cable, a micro USB cable, and an iPod/iPhone cable. Other features include a LED power meter and an integrated flashlight.

In Use
The BluePack S3 is an external battery pack that is very nearly the same size as my original iPhone. The battery pack is only about a half inch shorter than the iPhone and mere millimeters narrower and thinner. The size of the device means that it is awkward to talk on the phone when held in the hand.

The extra bulk and weight added by the battery pack is very apparent and the battery pack can’t simply hang from the cable attached to your iPhone without fear of it coming off or damaging the iPhone charge port. The BluePack S3 has an interesting feature that I have not seen on other external batteries before -- an integrated white LED flashlight. The flashlight isn’t super bright, but it will make it easy to find your dropped keys in a dark parking lot.

The BluePack S3 is billed as an iPhone or iPod battery, but the device will work with any device that charges form a micro USB cable or a 5-pin USB device. Supported devices include Blackberrys, the G1, and several HTC phones.

Dexim makes some big claims for battery life like 10 hours more talk time, 12 hours more video time, or 72 hours more music on a full charge. I wasn't able to talk for ten hours straight to test these claims. What I did do was take my iPhone with about a quarter charge left and plug it in with a full charge on the BluePack S3. I was able to use the iPhone normally for the day and after leaving the iPhone on the battery overnight, the phone was almost fully charged before the BluePack S3 ran out of juice.

The BluePack S3 charges via an included AC adapter with dual USB outputs. The dual USB outputs are combined into one round DC adapter that plugs into the top of the battery for charging. The BluePack S3 is best suited for long flights or car rides, but you can carry it around in a pinch for talking on the go.
