Gameplay and Setlist
I am reviewing the PS3 version of the track pack here; the other version should be the same. The country track pack has 21 songs that can be played as a stand along game from the disc. What that means is that you can simply insert the track pack disk and the game runs and looks just like Rock Band with the exception that you can’t customize your band or instruments. You get the songs in lots of four or more as a set list and as you complete the set list new songs in the pack are unlocked.

Among the songs in the set list are

  1. Alan Jackson- “Good Time”
  2. Brad Paisley- “Mud on the Tires”
  3. Brooks & Dunn- “Hillbilly Deluxe”
  4. Cross Canadian Ragweed- “Cry Lonely”
  5. Dierks Bentley- “Free and Easy (Down the Road I Go)”
  6. Dixie Chicks- “Sin Wagon ”
  7. Drive-By Truckers- “3 Dimes Down”
  8. Jason Aldean- “She’s Country”
  9. Keith Urban- “I Told You So”
  10. Kenny Chesney- “She Thinks My Tractor’s Sexy”
  11. Kenny Rogers- “The Gambler”
  12. Lucinda Williams- “Can’t Let Go”
  13. Martina McBride - “This One’s For The Girls”
  14. Miranda Lambert- “Gunpowder & Lead”
  15. Montgomery Gentry- “Gone”
  16. Rascal Flatts- “Me and My Gang”
  17. Sara Evans- “Suds In The Bucket”
  18. Shania Twain- “Any Man of Mine”
  19. Steve Earle- “Satellite Radio”
  20. Trace Adkins- “Swing”
  21. Willie Nelson- “On the Road Again”

I will admit that other than "On the Road Again" and "The Gambler," I had never heard any of these songs before. I noticed that a few of the songs played virtually the same on the drums and other instruments as well. The rhythms were very similar and several of the sections were identical so if you played on song you had played parts of a few others typically.

The strange part to me and the other people who were playing in the virtual band with me was that the character avatars the track pack uses are in no way country looking. It looks like you are a Goth band in a rock club playing country music. If you are going to do a country track pack it seems like a honky tonk and a more western feel would have been more appropriate. The drummer in my band had full face paint and looked more like Gene Simmons than Garth Brooks. Perhaps on future play sessions, the game will pick a better and more country looking band.

The real issue for me is that you can blow through the track sin the track pack very quickly. It took us about two hours to finish the add-on with breaks and time spent mocking the singer. None of the songs were really interesting or complicated so there was no burning desire to play the tracks again. We hadn't played the game in months and all the band mates were able to play on medium or hard with little difficulty.

Those issues aside, the country pack was lots of fun (at least the first time through) and in the end; I think it was worth the $30 asking price. A code is also included with the track pack to allow you to download the tracks into your Rock Band catalog. If you go that route, you could also country up your bands look as well.
