Specifications
The Eee 1101HA runs Windows XP Home and has an 11.1-inch LED backlit 1366 x 768 screen. The processor used in the machine is the Intel Atom Z520. Asus uses 1GB of RAM and 160GB HDD for storage. The notebook has a 1.3MP camera, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, and uses a 6-cell 63Wh battery though some units come with a 6-cell 48Wh battery Bluetooth is optional.

Benchmarks
The first test up for the machine is a test of the machines battery life using Battery Eater Pro 2.7. Battery Eater is very hard on the battery of the notebook and your real world run time will vary. I ran the benchmark with all power saving features turned off on the notebook and the screen set to 100% brightness. The battery lasted 367 minutes.

The next test up for the Eee 1101HA was my iTunes encoding test where I use an old version of iTunes to encode the Stone Temple Pilots Core album from MP3 to AAC and timed the process with a stopwatch. The Eee 1101HA was able to perform the encoding in 9 minutes and 9 seconds.

The final test for the Eee 1101HA was my movie encoding test where I use Windows Media Encoder and turn the HD Magic of Flight Video into a DVD quality video with CD audio suitable for PC download. The Eee 1101HA was able to encode the video in 16 minutes and 45 seconds.

In Use
After the tests were done, I tested the hands on aspects of the machine. The extra inch and a half of size compared to my MSI Wind U100 10.1-inch netbook is readily noticeable in the size of the keyboard. The keys on the Eee 1101HA are much less cramped than the U100 and offer great typing feel and feedback. The screen also offers higher resolution and extra screen space.

The screen has good color reproduction and works well for video playback form online sources like Hulu. The big issue like most notebook and netbook screens is that the glossy screen has lots of glare. The onboard sound system is surprisingly good for a small and relatively inexpensive machine. The sound is loud enough for you to easily hear it in a moderately noisy room.

The computer has plenty of power for your average computer user simply surfing the net, emailing, and doing the occasional work processing or productivity app. Like most netbooks, the Eee 1101HA lacks an optical drive so you will need and external or digital versions of any software you want to install.

The track pad was a source of bother for me on the machine. It is a section of the palm rest with holes in it to set it apart from the rest of the palm rest area. I found it to be accurate enough, but the surface too grippy making for somewhat uncomfortable scrolling. I like a very smooth track pad surface.
