Game Play
Dimension Invaders is the first augmented reality video game for the iPhone. The game uses the camera of the device and only works with the iPhone 3GS. When you start the game, the background is whatever the camera of the iPhone sees as you turn around.

The object of the game is to shoot the blue floating globs that are all around you. The globs look like blue brains to me. In the bottom, left corner of the game screen is radar that shows you where the blobs are in relation to you. The blobs can be above or below your direct line of sight as well.

Once you find the blue blobs all you need to do is line up the crosshair on the blob and press anywhere on the screen to shoot. The blue globs will shoot you too and as you take damage, your shield indicator on the left goes down. Once you run out of shield the game is over. The controls are a bit difficult to use and accuracy suffers because of it. I had a hard time getting the crosshair on the blobs during testing.

The game is very challenging and the controls use the accelerometer built into the iPhone. You actually have to turn yourself around to get at blobs that are behind you. That means you will be spinning in circles while you play the game. That may mean the game is best played in the privacy of your own home lest those around thing you are crazy. The animated graphics are very simple, but for one of the first augmented reality games Dimension Invaders is interesting. The game is available now for $0.99.
