Next Gen Storage Format Squeezes 1TB onto a DVD Size Disc
More, more, more is the battle cry for storage manufacturers. A company called Mempile has a new storage technology that is set to make Blu-ray and HD DVD look positively measly when it comes to storage capacity.
The new technology, dubbed TeraDisc, can store up to 1TB of content on a single platter. It records and reads over 100 virtual layers on one disc and was recently demoed in Japan. Read more

Sharp Aquos DV-ACW60 1TB HD Recorder
I feel so small with my 80GB digital video recorder. Terra Byte HD recorder are set to become the standard size in Japan. Sharp has just released the Aquos DV-ACW60 HD digital recorder with a 1TB HDD.
The Sharp DV-ACW60 has a Terrestrial BS 110 degree CS digital tuner supporting recording of 2 shows at the same time. Sharp also claims the fastest startup time with 0.8 seconds for the DV-ACW60.
Another new feature in a digital recorder is a high-speed IrDA interface. You can upload photos from a mobile phone to the recorder via infra-red to store it or view it on your TV.

Hitachi Announces their Own 1TB 3.5'' HDD
Hitachi is following in the footsteps of Seagate and announcing that they will have a 1TB internal hard drive in the first quarter of 2007. The really interesting tidbit about the Hitachi drive is that it will sell for a positively bargain price of $399, that is a mere $0.40 per gigabyte.
Hitachi has three different versions of the 1TB drive coming our way; one is the standard Deskstar 7K1000, one is a version for DVR boxes and one will be an enterprise version with certified mean time between failures. Only the standard 1TB version will be launched at first with the other two following later. Read more

Seagate Confirms 1TB 3.5'' HDD
Seagate has confirmed to DailyTech that they will be launching a 1TB HDD in the first half of 2007. The new 1TB drive will use the perpendicular recording technology Seagate pioneered with the 750 GB drive.
The new drive however will utilize fewer platters and less heads meaning the platters will hold more data than the ones in the current 750GB drive. This move leaves the other big hard drive manufacturers in the dust as no one else has matched the 750 GB HDD from Seagate to date. Read more

New Western Digital My Book Pro II 1TB External HDD
Western Digital is introducing their new 1TB My Book Pro II external hard drive. The new drive is shipping configured for RAID 0, which spans data across both of the 500GB internal drives for 1TB of total storage space.
However, the new My Book can be configured to use RAID 1 where the data is mirrored between the two drives for security and redundancy should one of the drives fail. Connectivity for the new 1TB drive is via USB 2.0, FireWire 400 and FireWire 800. Read more
