Hitachi’s Second Generation 1TB HDD Unveiled
Hitachi has announced the second generation of its 1TB Deskstar hard drive. The drive is called the Deskstar 7K1000.B and will ship worldwide in July at undisclosed pricing. Hitachi claims the new drive is the most energy efficient 7200 rpm 1TB hard drive in the world.
The drive uses three platters and improves idle power consumption up to 43% over the first generation 1TB drive from Hitachi. The drive also supports bulk data encryption (BDE) as an optional feature for users. The drive delivers 375Gb of storage per platter. Read more

Samsung Announces 1TB EcoGreen HDD
Samsung announced today a new eco hard drive with lots of storage capacity. The Samsung F1 EcoGreen hard drive has 1TB of storage space and provides a 15% power savings compared to other low-power 1TB drives.
The EcoGreen drive spins at 5400 RMP and uses the 3Gbps SATA interface and a 32MB buffer. The drive uses platters that each holds 334GB to reduce the number of parts required to operate the drive and boost overall performance. Samsung says the drive will be available in Q2 2008 for $199. Read more

Apple Time Capsule 1TB Review
The test lab at our review partner Digital Reviews tested the Apple Time Capsule with 1TB storage. Apple announced the easy to use backup solution in January of this year.

Asus M70 1TB Blu-ray full HD Notebook
Asus announces the new power-house AV notebook M70 with 1TB HDD and Blu-ray drive. Hitachi GST already touted the Asus M70 as the word's first 1TB notebook back in January.
Features of the Asus M70 include 17 inch WUXGA screen (1920x1200px), Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 ~T7700/T8100/T8300/T9300 CPU options, ATI Mobile Radeon HD3650 with 1G VRAM or ATI Mobile Radeon HD3470 with 256MB VRAM graphics, up to 4GB RAM, up to 2x500GB HDD (1TB) and built-in 1.3M pixel swivel webcam.

Seagate Launches 1TB HDD with SAS interface
Seagate announced today that it is now offering the world’s first 1TB hard drive with a SAS interface. The drive is the enterprise class Barracuda ES.2 with Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) interface. Seagate says the SAS interface can boost performance by 135% compared to SATA drives.
"The explosion of content in enterprise environments is driving the need for faster data access and bandwidth that Seagate's 1TB Barracuda ES.2 drives can deliver with a SAS interface," said Sherman Black, Seagate senior vice president and general manager, Seagate Enterprise Compute Business. "SAS dual-port capability with redundancy, improved performance and data integrity make this drive the perfect low-cost/GB enterprise-ready drive for our customers." Read more

World's first 1TB Notebook Asus M70
Today Hitachi GST announced that ASUS has integrated Hitachi’s Travelstar 5K500 hard drive into its new M50 and M70 notebook PCs.
The Asus M70 delivers up to 1TB of storage capacity in a two-drive configuration.
One TB of storage capacity translates to 1,000 hours of video, or more than 350 feature length movies or 250,000 four-minute songs.

Panasonic introduces three new Blu-ray disc recorders with up to 1TB of hard-drive space.
The Panasonic DMR-BW900 comes with a 1TB capacity, the DMR-BW800 has 500GB and the DMR-BW700 features 250GB of storage.
In the highest HD video quality (MP2, 24Mbps) the DRM-BW900 can store 90 hours.

Sharp announced today 5 new digital Hi-Vision recorder in Japan including the DV-ACW80 with 1TB storage.

Seagate launches 1TB HDDs Barracuda 7200.11 and Barracuda ES.2
Seagate introduced two 1TB hard drives today. The Barracuda ES.2 1TB HDD is aimed at networked and tiered storage solutions, reference/compliance storage, disc-to-disc backup and restore, archiving solutions, rich media content storage and collaboration.
The 1TB Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 is aimed at desktop and gaming computers.
The perpendicular magnetic recording (PMR) hard drives Barracuda 7200.11 and Barracuda ES.2 deliver 7,200-rpm spin speeds, average seek times of 8.5ms, caches up to 32MB and Seagate's five-year limited warranty. Seagate uses four discs to provide cool operating temperatures and low power consumption in the new 1TB drives.

Next Gen Storage Format Squeezes 1TB onto a DVD Size Disc
More, more, more is the battle cry for storage manufacturers. A company called Mempile has a new storage technology that is set to make Blu-ray and HD DVD look positively measly when it comes to storage capacity.
The new technology, dubbed TeraDisc, can store up to 1TB of content on a single platter. It records and reads over 100 virtual layers on one disc and was recently demoed in Japan. Read more

Sharp Aquos DV-ACW60 1TB HD Recorder
I feel so small with my 80GB digital video recorder. Terra Byte HD recorder are set to become the standard size in Japan. Sharp has just released the Aquos DV-ACW60 HD digital recorder with a 1TB HDD.
The Sharp DV-ACW60 has a Terrestrial BS 110 degree CS digital tuner supporting recording of 2 shows at the same time. Sharp also claims the fastest startup time with 0.8 seconds for the DV-ACW60.
Another new feature in a digital recorder is a high-speed IrDA interface. You can upload photos from a mobile phone to the recorder via infra-red to store it or view it on your TV.
