Toshiba Unveils 1.8-inch 250GB HDD Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review Toshiba announced its latest 1.8-inch HDD called the MK2529GSG that has 250GB of storage space. The small HDDs are intended to be used in consumer electronics and PCs. Performance from the drives should be decent with a 5400-rpm rotation speed.

The drive uses the SATA 3 GB/s interface and features a free fall sensor to enhance shock protection. The areal density for the drive is 378.8 GB/in. Power consumption is low at 0.0016 watts-per-GB. Read more

Fujitsu announced two new 2.5-inch HDD series’ today aimed at continuous use environments called the Fujitsu 2.5" MHZ2-BK 7200 RPM and the 2.5" MHZ2-BS 5400 RPM SATA series. The slower the drive rotates the longer it takes to retrieve your data and run your applications from the drive. Samsung announced today a new 250GB HDD for notebooks that uses a fast 7200 RPM spindle speed.

The drive is called the Spinpoint MP2 and it uses the SATA II 3.0Gbps interface, native command queuing and Samsungs SilentSeek and NoiseGuard technologies. The drive also sports a 16MB buffer and is available in sizes from 80GB to 250Gb. Read more

Fujitsu Releases 2.5 inch 250GB HDD Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review Today Fujitsu announced that they have developed a new super HDD with a 9.5mm profile that packs 250GB of storage space onto the small 5400 rpm 2.5” drive. The high storage capacity was reached by using perpendicular writing technology similar to that Seagate used with their 750GB drive.

Jujitsu expects to begin selling the MHY2 BH series drives during Q2 of 2007 with a target market of global makers of mobile computers and consumer electronics. Not only is this small drive packed with storage space, but it has a low noise level of 2.4 bels (1 bel is 10 decibels) and only needs 1.9 watts or less of power to operate. Read more
