Toshiba Unveils 1.8-inch 250GB HDD

Toshiba announced its latest 1.8-inch HDD called the MK2529GSG that has 250GB of storage space. The small HDDs are intended to be used in consumer electronics and PCs. Performance from the drives should be decent with a 5400-rpm rotation speed.

The drive uses the SATA 3 GB/s interface and features a free fall sensor to enhance shock protection. The areal density for the drive is 378.8 GB/in. Power consumption is low at 0.0016 watts-per-GB. Read more

Archos announced this week their new 6th generation of portable media players. The new Archos 5, 5g and 7 series are awesome portable machines that offer Wi-fi or even 3G connectivity (5g). We picked the new Archos 5 with the gigantic 250GB hard-drive as one of our Top 100 Holiday Gift Tips of 2008. Why? Show me another portable media player with 250GB storage. Apple is not offering an iPod with that kind of capacity, Sandisk and Microsoft also fail to offer 250GB in a player. Archos goes even bigger on the Archos 7 with 320GB, but a 7 inch PMP is already very big for a portable without having to use a bag. Read more

Fujitsu Offers 250GB 2.5-inch SATA Drive with Continuous Operation

Most hard drives in typical desktop and notebook computers don’t operate continuously 24-hours per day around the clock. Even if you leave your computer on all the time for the majority of that time it is sitting idle and the disk isn’t being accessed.

In an enterprise environment servers run continuously and often the times of highest disk usage are late at night when most people are not using the network. Fujitsu announced two new 2.5-inch HDD series’ today aimed at continuous use environments called the Fujitsu 2.5" MHZ2-BK 7200 RPM and the 2.5" MHZ2-BS 5400 RPM SATA series. Both lines offer capacities up to 250 GB and are rated for 24-hour continuous use with availability in July 2008. Read more

Samsung Announces new 7200 RPM 250GB Notebook HDD

The big tradeoff with notebook hard drives to get more storage space is normally a loss of rotational speed. The slower the drive rotates the longer it takes to retrieve your data and run your applications from the drive. Samsung announced today a new 250GB HDD for notebooks that uses a fast 7200 RPM spindle speed.

The drive is called the Spinpoint MP2 and it uses the SATA II 3.0Gbps interface, native command queuing and Samsungs SilentSeek and NoiseGuard technologies. The drive also sports a 16MB buffer and is available in sizes from 80GB to 250Gb. Read more

Wolverine ESP 250GB PMP Storage Device

Wolverine announced a storage/multimedia player today with a 250GB storage capacity. The device has a 250GB HDD, 3.6-inch TFT LCD and measures in at 5.3” x 2.8” x 0.9” and weighs 10.2 ounces.

Those are some pretty small dimensions for a gadget that has so much storage space crammed inside. Other features include a FM tuner and a 7-in-1 card reader that allows storage of photos from digital cameras while on the go. Fujitsu Releases 2.5 inch 250GB HDD

Today Fujitsu announced that they have developed a new super HDD with a 9.5mm profile that packs 250GB of storage space onto the small 5400 rpm 2.5” drive. The high storage capacity was reached by using perpendicular writing technology similar to that Seagate used with their 750GB drive.

Jujitsu expects to begin selling the MHY2 BH series drives during Q2 of 2007 with a target market of global makers of mobile computers and consumer electronics. Not only is this small drive packed with storage space, but it has a low noise level of 2.4 bels (1 bel is 10 decibels) and only needs 1.9 watts or less of power to operate. Read more

Hitachi announced teh W37L-H9000 LCD HDTV in Japan.

The Hitachi WOOO W37L-H9000 features a new panel with 178 degrees field of view using the new ISP alpha technology. The resolution is 1366x768 pixels and the brightness is 500cd/m2.
The integrated digital video recorder uses two tuners and has a 250GB capacity. The Hitachi recorder uses XCodeHD to compress the hi-vision video without reducing the resolution. Read more

Sharp announces a new 250GB HDD DVD recorder in Japan.

The Sharp DV-HR500 is apparently very easy to use. Not so important for western countries, but the Sharp DVD Recorder can display Kana and Chinese characters in the LCD display. EPG is provided by Gemstar-TV Guide International.
The new Sharp DVD Recorder will start selling mid June in Japan. No pricing available.

Sony announces 7 new DVD Recorder in Japan today.

5 of the new Sony DVD Recorder have Digital high vision tuners and two come with conventional analog tuners.
The Sony RDZ-D5 features a 250GB HDD and the Gemstar EPG. The RDZ-D5 can be connected to a HDV Camcorder to record DVDs.

The Sony DR-VH93 and DR-VH83 feature a VHS tape deck. The Sony DR-HX92W, DR-HX82W and DR-HX72 are DVD Recorder without a HDD.
