Mosquitoes Augmented Reality Game For iPhone 3GS launched

Topic:

Mosquitoes Augmented Reality Game For iPhone 3GS launched Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review I am a sucker for augmented reality apps (AR) and therefore had to try out Mosquitoes right away when developer Makayama pointed me to it.
The iPhone game Mosquitoes lets you shoot animated mosquitoes that are infesting your room. The game uses besides the camera, the compass and accelerometer to realistically let you hunt down the mosquitoes around you.
Try playing this AR Game on a rotating office chair - it works quite well.

Nintendo's Next DS Will Have Free 3G?

Topic:

Nintendo's Next DS Will Have Free 3G? Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review

They may not want to admit it, but Nintendo is losing ground in the handheld gaming market to the iPhone. While iPhone users have access to 3G Internet wherever they go, the DS only has WiFi access. This greatly limits its usefulness as an online gaming platform, and also makes downloading games and other apps online a much less attractive proposition. Mobile gaming should be just that; mobile. Being confined to your home or a WiFi hotspot in order to game online is a serious hindrance.

While Nintendo has yet to admit that the iPhone is their #1 handheld gaming competitor, they seem to be taking action to defend against it anyway. According to Financial Times (via Electronista) the gaming giant is considering adding free 3G access to their next handheld. Satoru Iwata, the company president, stated on Friday that Nintendo is considering adding an extra up front charge to their next handheld, in exchange for free lifetime 3G access.

T-Mobile myTouch 3G Fender Edition Delayed? Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review

If you're a big fan of Fender guitars (or just want to seem like one) you've probably looked at the upcoming myTouch 3G Fender edition. This custom version of the myTouch 3G is more than just a change of skin. It has more RAM (288 MB total) than its forebearer, in addition to a 16 GB SD card and a 3.5 MM headphone jack. The Fender edition was originally due out this holiday season. Unfortunately, the odds of it actually making that launch now seem unlikely.

Comcast To Offer 3G/4G Services

Topic:

Comcast To Offer 3G/4G Services Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review

Comcast, one of the nation's leading ISPs, is about to go 4G. And 3G. They're offering bundles now for customers to purchase both a high-speed cable connection for their homes, and a rolling 4G and 3G connection for a really good price. If BGR is right, Comcast is using Sprint's network to deliver the 3G/4G connection. That seems accurate, considering 4G is only available in Bellingham, WA, Portland, OR, or Atlanta, GA.

Nokia Booklet 3G Gets Official

Topic:

Nokia Booklet 3G Gets Official Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review We mentioned yesterday that third-party sources had verified the Nokia Booklet 3G pricing and today Nokia has gone official with pricing and availability information confirming that third-party confirmation as it is. The Booklet 3G will be a Best Buy exclusive product.

If you grab one up and sign up for a 2-year $60 per month mobile broadband plan you can get the device for $299.99. That's not such a bad price if you want mobile broadband anyway. I say check coverage in your local area before you buy though. AT&T's maps are very generous with their coverage areas and I have found they often have less coverage in some areas than they would like us to think. Read more

Nokia Booklet 3G: $299 With An AT&T Contract

Topic:

Nokia Booklet 3G: $299 With An AT&T Contract Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review

Good news, gadget geeks and geekettes: the Nokia Booklet is not going to be a ridiculously expensive piece of gear that no one without a trust fund can afford. Information has come out (via Engadget) that the Booklet 3G will be available starting October 22nd, for $299 with a 2 year AT&T contract.

That's much less then the $700-800 we'd been expecting, as is the unsubsidized price of $600. Still, the Booklet won't be cheap. $300 is a very fair netbook price, but you'll also be paying $60 a month for AT&T's data plan. That brings the total cost up substantially, to around $1700 in total. Granted, that includes 2 years of 3G service.

Nokia Booklet 3G: For Sale in Italy

Topic:

Nokia Booklet 3G: For Sale in Italy Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review

If you're Italian, you can feel free to leave and go pre-order your Nokia Booklet 3G right this minute. According to Boy Genius Nokia Italia is the first region that the booklet has come available for pre-order in. This means that we're very close to seeing Nokia roll their new netbook out in other markets as well.

Unfortunately, it also means we can look forward to agonizingly high prices in all of those markets. The (adjusted) price of the Booklet in Italy comes out to $1,021 USD. Considering most netbooks of comparable power to the booklet sell for $400-$500, that's a bit of a stretch. Prices do differ by region, and I doubt that Nokia will try to charge more than $800 for this product in the U.S.

Whoopi Goldberg & Other Celebrities Endorse myTouch 3G

Topic:

Whoopi Goldberg & Other Celebrities Endorse myTouch 3G Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review

T-Mobile is about to roll out with a brand new series of commercials featuring a cast of celebrities endorsing the myTouch 3G Android smartphone. Talk Android has a copy of the first of these commercials, which features Whoopi Goldberg, Phil Jackson, & Jesse James. More ads and purchase information for the smartphone ($199 w/2 year contract) can be found on the T-Mobile website here.

The main selling point in these ads appears to be the myriad of customization options available to users who pick the myTouch 3G (or any Android smartphone, really). I've got no doubts that a star-studded ad campaign will fetch a fortune for T-Mobile. But, if you're looking to grab a new Android smartphone, I'd hold off for a little bit.
