Samsung Offers 640GB 2.5-inch HDD
Samsung has unveiled its latest hard drive offering. The drive is the 2.5-inch 640GB SpinPoint M7. The drive is designed to be used inside of notebook computers and other devices with room for a 2.5-inch HDD.
The new HDD uses platters with 320GB of storage each offering 516-gigaibt per square inch of data. That is a 28% increase in density per platter compared to Samsung's previous 500GB HDD. The drive is also designed to survive bumps and shocks with the ability to withstand 400G while operating and 900G when power is off. Read more

Apricorn Unveils 240GB HDD Upgrade Kit
Apricorn has unveiled its new upgrade kit for the 5th generation video iPod music players. The new upgrade kit allows owners to add 240GB of storage to their video iPod. The larger storage drive also needs less power than the original drive in the iPod.
That means that while you gain storage space you also get more battery life for your device. Overall improvement in energy efficiency compared to the original drive is 33%. Read more

Rapid Repair 240GB HDD upgrade for 5G iPod Video
Rapid Repair is offering owners of the 5G iPod Video units an upgrade to a 240GB Toshiba HDD. The drive offers twice the storage capacity that the 5G iPod originally had. With twice, the storage space users can get 300 hours of movies and TV shows on the iPod along with lots more music.
The 240GB HDDs are sold as self-install kits or you can send the iPod in and the company will install the new HDD for you. The drive itself is a 1.8-inch 240GB Toshiba unit that only fits 5g iPod Video 30GB, 60GB, and 80GB units. Read more

Toshiba Announces 1.8-inch 240GB HDD
Toshiba has announced a new 1.8-inch small form factor hard drive that packs 240Gb of storage. Toshiba says that this is the world's first dual-platter 240GB drive and the world's first single platter 120GB drive in the 1.8-inch size.
The hard drive will eventually find its way into MP3 players and camcorders among other things and will ship in time for holiday shopping. It's safe to say that we will be seeing 240GB iPods and Zune's using the drive. Read more

Sony announced the 40GB Sony PS3 for the United States about two weeks ago. The new low-end Sony PS3 console sells for $399.99 and begins shipping this Friday, November 2nd.
Amazon.com is taking pre-orders for the new PS3 console that comes bundled with the Spider-man 3 blu-ray movie.

80GB Sony PS3 Price-cut and 40GB Sony PS3 details
The news about the launch date for the 40G Sony PS3 went over the Reuters ticker already earlier today. Now Sony also published the official press-release announcing the price-cut for the 80GB PS3 and the details on the 40GB PS3 for the U.S. market.
The 80GB Sony PS3 has now the lowered price to $499 instead of $599. It is not clear if that price includes the Motorstorm game.
The 40GB Sony PS3 comes bundled with the Spider-man 3 Blu-ray movie and has a price of $399.

40GB Sony PS3 sells like hot Cakes in UK [Update]
Sales of the Sony PS3 jumped 178% in the UK last week.
Update:
Now that more detailed sales data is available, it seems the PS3 sales surge can mostly be attributed to the 60GB Sony PS3. More details on PSPSPS.
The 40GB Sony PS3 sells for £299.99 and the 60GB PS3 console got the new reduced price of £349.99 in the UK. Still Sony could not beat the Nintendo DS sales numbers for last week. Via GameDaily.
The U.S. still has no details on when Sony will start selling the 40GB Sony PS3. There is enough evidence that it will happen.

Sony announces white 40GB Sony PS3
Sony announced today in Japan 40GB Sony PS3 consoles. As a treat Japanese customers can get a ceramic white Sony PS3 console.
As in Europe, Japan gets now lower priced 40GB Sony PS3 consoles. The price in Japan is 39,980 Yen (~$340).
Sony will start shipping the new white and the new black 40GB Sony PS3 on November 11th. Now we have something desirable again to import from Japan - a shiny white Sony PS3.

$399 Sony PS3 40GB on November 2nd?
Sony has already officially announced the lower cost 40GB Sony PS3 in Europe and other PAL regions last week. The 40GB PS3 begins shipping on Wednesday October 10th. UK customers can order one right now on Amazon UK for £299.99.
When Sony will officially introduce the 40GB Sony PS3 in the United States is still not known. We already reported the rumors stating a Thanksgiving launch date and a November 16th release date.

40GB Sony PS3 is official
Sony officially announces the rumored 40GB Sony PS3 console for Europe launching next week on October 10th at the new low price of €399. (Price would be $399 if it launches in U.S.)
There are few differences between the 40GB PS3 and the 60GB PS3. One big difference is that the new PS3 is no longer backwards compatible with PS2 games.

40GB Sony PS3 coming on November 16th?
The rumors around a new Sony PS3 console are not ending. Over the weekend Ars Technica published that an industry source told them a new 40GB Sony PS3 will ship on or around November 16th.
The rumored price is still $399. Last week we reported a story on Newsweek that guessed a Thanksgiving release date for the new standard PS3.

A homebrew hacker succeeded in connecting a 40GB IDE hard-drive to a Nintendo DS, and he shows you step by step how to do it.
The 40GB storage extension for the Nintendo DS is not very portable - nothing you could not fix with some duct tape though. You need an additional 5V power supply for the HDD as the GBA slot only provides 3.3V.

Nextar, apparently formerly known as MacVision, offers the MC3007 portable media player.
The MC3007 features a 40GB HDD and a large 7 inch display. The PMP supports DivX, MPEG, MPEG4, AVI, DAT, VOB, MP3, WMA, WAV, JPEG, BMP and GIF files.
Other features include AV in/out, SD-Card slot and USB 2.0. The Nextar MC3007 supports recording of video input in MP4.
Why is this PMP interesting? It is the low price. Our new PVP shop for instance sells it for $380.58. Buy.com has it currently for $388.99.
The lowest price of an Archos AV 700 is currently $630 - quite a difference.

New Sony Net Juke NAS-M7HD with 40GB HDD
Sony introduces in Japan a new bookshelf stereo in it's Net Juke line dubbed NAS-M7HD.
The new Sony Net Juke has an integrated 40GB hard-drive to store music. The MD stereo set also features a 4.1 inch color LCD display. Users can record music to MDs from the hard-drive and
vice versa. And that is not all. The NAS-M7HD has also a Ethernet interface and a USB interface. Music can be stored directly via USB on Sony A-Series Walkman without the use of a PC. Apparently the NAS-M7HD also has a memory stick duo slot to transfer music for the Sony PSP.
Users can also directly purchase CDs from the Net Juke via a music store. The color display is showing the album covers when browsing the store.

Toshiba Gigabeat G40 40GB MP3 Player
Toshiba offers a 40GB version of its super slim Gigabeat G series in Japan.
AudioCubes just added it to their offers and sells the Toshiba Gigabeat G40 with 40GB hard-drive for $559.00.
Toshiba G40 comes in green and sliver. Besides the larger drive the Gigabeat G40 has the same features as the G20 like MP3, WAV and WMA files support, 160x86 LCD display, 11 hours play time. The Toshiba Gigabeat G40 measures 76.5mm (W) x 15.7mm (H) x 89.5mm (D) and weighs 156g.
