Japan gets Windows XP Asus Eee PC 4G-X
Asus launches the Asus Eee PC in Japan. For some reason Asus is only offering the Windows XP version of the Asus Eee PC.
Japan is the first market where Asus is rolling out the Windows XP Eee. The first customers today also received a WL-330g Wi-fi access point for free when they bought a Eee PC 4G-X at major Japanese retailer Bic Camera. The price for the XP Eee is 50,000 Yen (~$464).

Today we are looking at 4GB of PC2-6400 SODIMM RAM from Crucial for use in a notebook computer. To get the full benefit from 4GB of RAM, you need to have a 64-bit OS.

SanDisk Announces 4GB Cruzer Titanium Plus for CES 2008
SanDisk announced today that it will be showing off it's latest flash drive in the Cruzer family at CES 2008 next week. The SanDisk Cruzer Titanium Plus has 4GB of storage capacity and adds an automatic online backup function to the Cruzer family of products.
SanDisk says that users can gain access to their backed up files from any internet connected computer in the world. This allows files to be retrieved in the event the flash drive is lost, stolen, or forgotten. Read more

Green Asus Eee PC 4G Surf appears and ships
An unannounced green Asus Eee PC 4G Surf is apparently shipping in Taiwan. We reported about a spring colored Asus Eee 2G Surf to be hitting the shelves in early 2008. A colored 4G Surf Eee PC was unknown.
Two Taiwan based sellers offer the green Asus Eee PC 4G (4G SSD and 512MB RAM) on the German eBay.

Samsung 64GB SATA II SSD
Samsung is the first company in the industry to sample 1.8-inch and 2.5-inch 64GB solid state drives (SSD) with a SATA (Serial ATA) II/native SATA interface.
The 64GB SATA II SSD sports a sequential write speed of 100Megabyte per second (MBps) and sequential read speed of 120MBps. Samsung aims the FlashSSD drive towards notebook PCs, corporate servers, and other high-performance storage applications.

Yet another detailed Asus Eee PC 4G Review
The Asus Eee PC 4G is available at retail in the United States since this week and more review of the highly anticipated mini Linux notebook appear. Now Hothardware published an excellent review with interesting performance tests and dissected Eee PC photos (see also this Asus Eee PC dissection report).

Samsung 30nm 64GB NAND Flash revealed
Samsung announced another milestone in flash memory technology. The company announced today that it has developed the world‘s first 64 Gigabit (Gb) multi level cell (MLC) NAND flash memory chip - using 30nm-class process technology.
A maximum of sixteen 64Gb flash devices can be combined to make a 128 Gigabyte (GB) memory card that can store 80 DVD resolution movies or 32,000 MP3 music files.

Today we are looking at a new flash drive from OCZ called the OCZ ATV Turbo. This drive is very fast with excellent read and write speeds.
With its rubber case, it promises to be very durable as well. OCZ says the drive is water resistant but in testing, the cap was found to come off easily. Be careful with it and you will have one of the fastest drives around. Read more

2.4Ghz Baby Monitor with Night Vision Camera and Bedwetting Sensor
Chinese company Goscam sent us information about their latest baby monitor. This baby monitor has a night vision camera with a range of 5m.
The images of your baby are transmitted via 2.4Ghz technology with a range of up to 100m.
The receiver has a 2.5 inch color screen with a resolution of 480x240px. Besides the camera there is of course also a microphone installed to transmit sound.
Apparently there are accessories for the Goscam (somehow a bad name: "go scam") that detect bedwetting or motion.

SanDisk Announces 4GB M2 Card
SanDisk announced today that their hew 4GB Memory Stick Micro (M2) card is available at retail. This marks the launch of the highest capacity 4GB M2 card for use in digital cameras, hand held game players and Sony Ericsson mobile phones.
"Music, video, photos, games--these are the types of content driving the need for higher capacity cards such as the 4GB M2," said Jeff Kost, vice president and general manager of the Mobile Consumer Solutions division at SanDisk. Samsung 1.8 inch 64GB SSD in Mass Production
Samsung announced that it has begun mass producing 1.8 inch solid state drives (SSD) at 64GB; the highest density SSD available today.
As you know SSD drives feature far greater reliability, faster boot times and faster application start-up times than hard disk drives. SSD can also improve battery life by up to 20% in notebooks.
The 64GB SSD consists of 64 eight Gigabit (Gb) single-level cell flash memory chips. Use of 51nm process technology permits fabrication of much smaller components, with each chip having circuitry 1/2500th the width of a human hair.
