60GB
Most Sony PS3 Consoles at Launch will be 60GB/HDMI
Gamespot quotes an analyst from Lazard Capital Markets who just sat down with Sony, saying that 80% of the Sony PS3 consoles, which will be available at launch will be the premium model with 60GB and HDMI interface ($599).
I am glad Sony thinks that way. The 'low-end' version is just not that attractive. It is not the HDD size; it is the missing HDMI port.
I already wrote back in May when Sony announced the two versions of the PS3 that the 20GB model is just not cutting it.

No HDMI Cable Bundled with Sony PS3 60GB
A couple days ago the specification page on the Sony PS3 site (via PS3Land) revealed that the HDMI enabled 60GB Sony PS3 will not come with an HDMI cable. There is lots of criticsm about this circulating in the community.
In my case I already have an HDMI cable installed. It is 15m long. For anybody who has a HD ready projector the HDMI cable that Sony would have bundled would be anyway to short and useless.
Sure you could say you anyway pay a premium price for the new Playstation, why is Sony not throwing in a HDMI cable?

Sony PS3 HDD 60GB and Forget the Sony PS3 HDD 20GB Right Away
Sony announced today at their big E3 press-conference the launch details of the Sony Playstation 3. They took one to many pointers from Microsoft.
Sony will launch with two PS3 models world-wide in November. Japan gets the PS3 on November 11th. The United States and Europe will get the Playstation 3 six days later on November 17th.
There will be a Sony PS3 with 60GB hard-drive and a Sony PS3 with a 20GB hard-drive. The PS3 20GB price is $499 (499 Euro) and the PS3 HDD 60GB will sell for $599 (599 Euro).
Here comes the bad news. The Sony PS3 HDD 20GB does not have a HDMI port, only the Sony HDD 60GB has an HDMI port (see specifications sheet below).
Similar to Microsoft, Sony is crippling the cheaper version of their new game console. You are buying a Sony PS3 and will have it for several years. So why would you want to have a console with missing an interface that you most likely will need in the future?
Besides HDMI the 20GB PS3 also misses Wi-Fi (another bummer) and the Sony Memory Stick port.
So the only choice you have is to buy the more expensive Sony PS3 with 60GB. To make sure your friends know you have the $599 priced Sony PS3, Sony has made the case design a bit different by adding a chrome colored edge.

New Toshiba 60GB 1.8 inch Hard-drives
Toshiba continues to push the boundaries on small hard drives for portable devices.
The Toshiba 60GB "MK6006GAH" achieves the highest capacity (93.5-gigabits of data per square inch) and the 30GB "MK3006GAL" slims down drive thickness to only 5mm. Toshiba can pack 30GB of data onto a single 1.8-inch platter, an increase of 50% over current models. Mass production will start in October. So maybe some Portable Video Players or Music Players will have 60GB by the end of the year.
More details in Toshiba Press-Release. See also our story about Toshiba's super small 0.85" hard-drive.
