Shuttle AMD AM2+ Mini-PC Barebone Kit
Shuttle has announced its latest small form factor barebones system for AMD AM2+ processors. The new system uses the H7 housing design and is suitable for the newest Phenom processors. Shuttle says the machine has 80channel sound with DTS Connect and Dolby Digital Live! certification.
Sound can be transmitted via an optical SPDIF out socket. Graphics for the system are via DirectX 10 compliant NVIDIA GeForce 8200 that can accelerate HD video. Outputs on the rear include a HDMI 1.3 with HDCP port. The system also has a PCI Express slot for a discrete video card. Read more

DreamWorks picks Intel over AMD for Chip Supply: Report
(Reuters) - Animated-movie studio DreamWorks Animation SKG has chosen
chipmaker Intel Corp over previous supplier Advanced Micro Devices to supply
chips and other technology for its big computer-animation operations, The Wall

AMD ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 coming in August
AMD just released the HD 4850 and HD 4870 video cards, reports appear that the ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 will be ready in August.
AMD will begin shipping reference design boards with 2GB GDDR5 memory at the end of the month reports Digitimes based on industry sources.

Toshiba Updates Select Satellite Notebooks with new Features and AMD Platforms
Toshiba has announced that it updated some of its Satellite series notebooks with the new AMD next generation notebook platform. Models receiving upgrades include the P300D, A300D, M300D, U400D, L300D, and L350D.
All of the machines are offered with variations of the new AMD Athlon Dual core QL, Turion Dual Core RM and Turion Ultra ZM processors. The new AMD platforms offer better performance, visuals and battery life compared to previous AMD platforms. Read more

AMD Phenom X4 9350e and 9950 Black Edition unveiled
AMD introdes three new quad-core Phenom X4 processors. One of the processors, the new 2.6GHz Phenom X4 9950 Black Edition, is AMD's latest flagship desktop CPU. The other two, however, are somewhat surprising "green", low-power quad-cores dubbed the Phenom X4 9350e (2.0GHz) and Phenom X4 9150e (1.8GHz).
With its Black Edition branding, it should be obvious to the power user among you that the Phenom X4 9950 BE is targeted squarely at enthusiasts and overclockers. But the audience for the Phenom X4 9350e and Phenom X4 9150e processors is a little harder to quantify.

AMD Says World’s Fastest Supercomputers Use Opteron’s
AMD says that 3 of the top 5 supercomputers in the world and 7 of the top 20 supercomputers use AMD Opteron processors. AMD says that for the first time ever its processors are in use in the fastest supercomputer in the world.
AMD says that the Opteron-based Ranger supercomputer at the TACC made its first appearance on the top 500 supercomputers list with a ranking of number 4. The Ranger machine has a score of 326 teraflops. The Ranger machine is used for science research and solves problems for weather prediction and climate modeling as well as genetics and medical research. Read more

AMD demonstrated its Cinema 2.0 experience that it claims punches holes in the sensory barrier between cinema and games. The AMD teraflops graphics chip codenamed RV770 is at the heart of Cinema 2.0. AMD says that until this chip programmers had to decide between ultra-realistic and interactive.
AMD says that now game developers can offer the cinematic qualities and vision of top directors and still provide the interaction that gamer’s desire. AMD says the secret is the blending of complex and realistic graphics with dynamic 3D content of popular video games. Read more

AMD FireStream 9250 breaks the 1 Teraflop Barrier
At the International Supercomputing Conference today, AMD introduced its next-generation stream processor, the AMD FireStream 9250.
The AMD FireStream 9250 breaks the one teraflop barrier for single precision performance.
The AMD FireStream 9250 stream processor includes a second-generation double-precision floating point hardware implementation delivering more than 200 gigaflops, building on the capabilities of the earlier AMD FireStream 9170, the industry’s first GP-GPU with double-precision floating point support.

AMD Announces HD 3870 Mac & PC Edition
AMD announced yesterday a new ATI Radeon HD 3870 for Mac & PC Edition video card. The video card is optimized exclusively for Apple Mac Pro systems and features a 256-bit 512MB GDDR4 frame buffer and 320 stream processors.
The dual DVI ports on the display can support up to two 30-inch Apple Cinema displays. The video card appears to be nothing more than a standard HD 3970 with Mac drivers included. The MSRP for the card is $219 and availability is for June. Read more

Optimized Gaming Physics from AMD and Havok
AMD and Havok announced today that they will be teaming up to investigate the implementation of physics for PC gaming using AMDs hardware. Currently over 100 developers and 300 leading game titles take advantage of the Havok physics engine.
AMD says that Havok physics scale well across its range of products like the new Phenom quad-core parts. AMD and Havok also say they will look at bringing Havok physics processing to the ATI Radeon line of graphics cards as well. Read more

The ATI XGP is a technology that capitalizes on PCIe 2.0 to deliver enthusiast-class graphics via a connected cable to an externally powered and cooled device.

AMD Launches New Quad-Core Opteron's
AMD announced today that it has launched new quad-core Opteron processors for use in servers and workstations. AMD launched a total of three new quad-core Opteron 1300 series processors for single socket servers and workstations.
The processors include the Opteron 1352 running 2.1 GHz, 1354 at 2.2GHz and the 1356 at 2.3 GHz. AMD says the processors are aimed at small and mid-market companies and fit into the same socket and thermal requirements as the previous AMD Opteron 1000 processors. Read more

AMD announces GDDR5 ATI Radeon Graphics Cards
Today AMD announced the first commercial implementation of GDDR5 (Graphics Double Data Rate, version 5) memory in its forthcoming next generation of ATI Radeon graphics cards.
The GPU performance in today's graphics cards is limited by the rate at which data can be moved on and off the graphics chip, which in turn is limited by the memory interface width and die size.
The higher data rates supported by GDDR5 is up to 5x that of GDDR3 and 4x that of GDDR4.
