Kanguru Solution has added new administrative tools to its Kanguru Remote Management console for its line of secure flash drives. The new admin tools give more control over flash drives and make the Kanguru secure drives intelligent by allowing them to check for server availability, notify users of policy updates, schedule password changes, and more.
The features can be implemented in any organization using the software on the drive. The software also allows the administrator to set and enforce policies for the organization and view reports on which drives are compliant with the policy and notify those that aren't. Read more

Surprise! RIM is announcing an App Store for its BlackBerry phones. After Apple's success with the App Store all other mobile OS platforms copy Apple's strategy to make it easy for users to find, buy and install apps on their phones.
Research In Motion (RIM) today announced two major distribution initiatives for BlackBerry smartphone applications at the BlackBerry Developer Conference.
A new online application storefront and a new on-device application center will help application developers and carriers reach millions of BlackBerry smartphone users worldwide and will provide consumers with greater choice, enhanced application discovery and an easy method for managing installation, upgrades, and purchases.

GoLive2 Introduces Stix-Compatible MMO Racing Game
GoLive2 is the maker and seller of the Wii-like Stix controllers for PC. I tested the Stix 200 and found that accuracy was a big issue for the control system. GoLive2 has announced a new MMO racing title for the Stix controllers called GoLive2 Racing.
The game is free to play and features a lounge, paddock, and garage area. Two tracks are available to play, one is a short track, and the other is a long track. For an additional monthly fee, players can get access to additional tracks, avatars, and race car customizations. Read more

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Sarah Palin steps into the lion's den of political
satire on Saturday with an appearance on the comedy show that has mocked the
Republican vice-presidential candidate and helped shape the national debate.
Palin's appearance on "Saturday Night Live" follows a series of dead-on
impersonations of her by comedian Tina Fey that have sent ratings for the show
soaring and become as talked about as the Alaska governor and self-described
hockey mom herself.

New Apple Next-generation MacBook unveiled
Apple announced today two Next-generation MacBooks and Apple reduces the entry price of the currently available MacBooks to $999.
At least there is now an Apple notebook under $1,000 available, but it is not a new one and it is not the rumored $899 or $800 price point, but at least something. An updated 13-inch white MacBook featuring 2.1 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processors, a 120GB 5400 rpm hard drive and a slot-load 8X SuperDrive is now available for $999.
The new MacBook line features the powerful new NVIDIA GeForce 9400M, a revolutionary new 3D integrated graphics processor that features 16 parallel processing cores and delivers up to five times the 3D graphics performance as previous MacBook and MacBook Air designs. Verbatim LightScribe 8x DVD+R DL Media Now Available
Verbatim has announced that it is the first to bring DVD+R DL LightScribe media to market. LightScribe media allows compatible DVD burners to burn a label directly onto the disk. 8x is currently the fastest DVD+R DL speed available.
The media has about twice as much storage capacity as a normal DVD with the ability to hold 8.5GB of data. The Verbatim media will be available in 10-disc spindles at unannounced pricing. LightScribe media tends to cost a bit more than normal DVDs, but they shouldn’t be particularly expensive. Read more

CBS wins weeklong Ratings Race
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - In the second week of the broadcast season,
CBS replaced ABC as the top network thanks to a strong lineup of competitive
performers.
CBS won the week in both total viewers and the key adults 18-49 demographic,
while ABC's "Dancing with the Stars" was once again the most-watched show.

Playstation Home is all about Social
The 3D online community platform Playstation Home is still slated to launch as open beta in Fall. Currently Playstation Home is in extended beta. MTV sat down with Jack Buser, director of the PlayStation 3 virtual world "Home" project last week to get a demonstration of Playstation Home in its current state.
Mr. Buser took a lot of emphasis on the social aspects of the Playstation Home platform and how it will help PS3 gamers to meet each other and "socialize".

Didiom Launches iTunes Placeshifting Application
Didiom has launched a new public beta service for its mobile music placeshifting and music download service. The application allows users to wirelessly access their personal iTunes library on over 100 different mobile devices including the BlackBerry and Windows Mobile devices.
The application also provides access to a music store that allows tracks to be purchased on a per track basis. The library available via the download service is from a variety of independent music labels. Albums on the service will cost $9.99 for a single download to $12.99 for a dual download. Read more

DreamWorks, Paramount finalize Separation
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The principals behind DreamWorks SKG and Paramount
Pictures sealed their parting of ways on Sunday, allowing the DreamWorks studio
to tie up with Reliance ADA Group of India to start a new film company.
As part of the agreement, the DreamWorks principals' new company will take the
lead on a number of development projects, which Paramount will have the option
to co-finance and co-distribute, the studios said in a joint statement.

Nintendo DS outsold Sony PSP in Anticipation of new PSP Release
The latest console sales numbers from Japan show that the Nintendo DS outsold the Sony PSP last month by a large margin. Nintendo sold 234,477 Nintendo DS consoles and Sony only managed to move 109,274 PSP consoles. In the prior month the PSP did lag far less behind the DS than in September.
Nintendo just last week announced a new Nintendo DS dubbed Nintendo DSi, which will be released on November 1st. The new Sony PSP-3000 will launch in two weeks in Japan and might propel the PSP ahead of the Nintendo DS for October.

Palin-Biden Debate sets TV Ratings Record

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Sarah Palin's televised showdown with Joe Biden drew
nearly 70 million U.S. viewers, far surpassing last week's John McCain-Barack
Obama face-off and ranking as the most watched vice presidential debate ever.
Palin, the Republican governor of Alaska, and Biden, the Democratic senator from
Delaware, also drew the biggest audience of any nationally televised political
debate in 16 years, going back to a matchup among then-President George H.W.
Bush, Democrat Bill Clinton and independent Ross Perot, according to ratings
issued on Friday.
The three-way debate in October 1992, like the Palin-Biden contest on Thursday,
pulled in 69.9 million viewers, Nielsen Media Research said.

Resident Evil: Degeneration CG Feature Film Debuts
Fans of the Resident Evil video game series and live action feature films will be glad to hear that Sony Pictures and CAPCOM have released an all-new CG-animated film called Resident Evil: Degeneration. The film will make its worldwide theatrical debut on October 18th in Japan and in LA on November 18th.
The film is set seven years after the destruction of Raccoon City with Leon and Claire back to fight zombies. The virus finds its way to an airport in the heart land of America where zombies again start to roam. Read more

Xbox Live Down because of posting TrueSkill Statistics on Halo 3
Following the downtime of Xbox Live yesterday, some Xbox 360 users are experiencing connection issues right now because Microsoft is posting TrueSkill statistics on Halo 3.
The Xbox support page calls the issues intermittent. Update: Looks like the issue just got more severe as Microsoft updated the support page with: "Users will not be able to connect or log into Xbox LIVE. We are aware of the problem and working to resolve the issue." Update: Xbox LIVE supposedly up again, but still some issues might still occur.
We see quite some hits on our Xbox Live Down stories indicating that currently lots of Xbox users cannot connect to Xbox Live.

XDepth Raw Jpeg-compatible RAW Image Format and Compression Tech
Many photographers prefer to shoot with the higher quality RAW image format to Jpeg. The problem is that RAW images take up significantly more storage space and the images aren’t as compatible with different software as the Jpeg.
A new photo format has been announced called XDepth RAW and it is the only image format and file solution able to function as both a RAW image and a Jpeg at once. XDepth Raw can store at 72-bit/pixel full dynamic range. The average image taken with the XDepth Raw format is 0.2MB. Read more
