Windows CE to run on Acer Aspire One and Lenovo S9 Netbooks
Currently Netbooks run Windows XP and Linux. The low-end models sure run better with Linux because Windows XP needs more resources. For Windows fans Windows CE would be the solution to run on the cheapest netbooks.
Quarta Mobile has now announced the development of an open source shell to enable enthusiasts and netbook makers to install Windows Embedded CE 6.0 on netbooks.
The company starts with the Acer Aspire One and the Lenovo IdeaPad S9.

There are lots of attractive netbooks on the market this fall and it is difficult to choose the right one. Acer has with the Aspire One an attractive netbook that stands out a bit. It is currently a bestseller in at Amazon and Walmart.
The reasons for the success are possibly the pleasant design, attractive pricing and decent hardware configuration. With the 8.9 inch screen the Acer Aspire One is featuring what I think is the sweet spot screen size for netbooks. Smaller screens are not really good to work with and larger ones get you too close to normal notebook sizes.

Blue Acer Aspire One Netbook tops Sales Charts
What a difference a color can make. The Sapphire Blue Acer Aspire One netbook tops the netbook sales charts on Amazon.com and on Walmart.com.
On Amazon the Blue Acer Aspire One 8.9 inch netbook (Windows XP) with 160GB HDD and 1GB RAM is in the lead selling for $399.99.
On Walmart.com the Acer Aspire One (Linux) with 8GB SSD and 512MB is on top selling for only $338.

Acer Aspire One Price Drops
Acer has cut the price of its Aspire One netbook with base models retailing for $349. At that price, the One will run Windows XP home. The One weighs only 2.17 pounds and is designed to be an entry level PC for students or a second system for advanced users.
The One runs an Intel Atom processor, XP Home, 1GB of RAM, 120GB HDD, and a three-cell battery. Users wanting a Linux version can get the same specs with Linpus Linux Lite for $329. A version of the One with a 6-cell battery, 160GB HDD, and Windows XP home is $399. All versions use an 8.9-inch LCD screen. Read more

NVIDIA announces that PC makers like Acer are using NVIDIA motherboard GPUs to deliver new lines of consumer-oriented, small-form-factor PCs that have the performance, functionality, price, and visual performance of full-sized desktop machines.
The Acer Aspire x1200 and x3200 line of PCs use the NVIDIA GeForce 8200 GPU to deliver visual performance while solving many of the thermal, noise, and cost issues traditionally associated with designing smaller machines.

Acer Aspire One Now On Sale in US
Acer announced today that its Aspire One notebook we first reported on in May is now available in the US. The Aspire One is an ultra-lightweight netbook in the vein of the ASUS Eee. The One starts at a price of $379. The One is designed to allow users to surf the web, check email, IM, make VOIP calls, stream video and listen to music.
The system weighs only 2.17 pounds and measures 9.8 x 6.7 x 1.14 inches. The screen is a 8.9-inch WSVGA LED screen with a resolution of 1024 x 600 and an integrated webcam. The machine has a three cell battery good for three hours and a six cell battery is optional. Using the 6-cell battery and Linpus Linux Lite battery life is up to 7 hours. Asetek to Cool Acer Aspire Predator Gaming PC
Asetek is known in enthusiast crowds for making the Vapochill phase change cooling system for highly overclocked PCs. Asetek also provides OEM cooling solutions to some of the most recognizable computer makers around. Asetek announced that it is providing its LCLC cooling product to Acer.
Acer will be using the product in its high-end Predator gaming system. The liquid cooling system being used inside the Predator promises to reduce noise and improve performance over air cooling. The liquid cooling system will allow the CPU to be overclocked to higher levels than air cooling can achieve. Read more

Acer Aspire X1200 Desktop PC Launches
Acer announced the latest addition to the Aspire line today called the X1200. The Aspire X1200 starts at a price of $450 and is a small form factor system that can be used as a HTPC machine when properly equipped.
The X1200 series uses AMD dual-core processors, NVIDIA GeForce 8200 integrated graphics and PCI Express 2.0. The X1200 measures 10.6” H x 4: W x 14.4” L and has a high gloss case making it fit well and look good in an entertainment center. Read more

Acer Aspire One Review
Hexus got a chance to spend some time with the new Acer Aspire One at the Computex 2008.
Quote from the brief review: "Playing around on the Linux version - on which Acer will ship a Vista-like GUI that links web browsing, emailing, word processing, and multimedia support - navigation between panes was a little slow compared to a full-sized laptop. Further, opening up concurrent applications caused the sample model to slow to a crawl, but that should be remedied with more system RAM.
