The Acer A1's Snapdragon Processor; Underclocked?
The Acer A1 “Liquid” made headlines as the first confirmed Android smartphone to pack the badass Snapdragon 1 GHz processor under its hood. Unfortunately, it looks like people who buy the A1 won't actually get to make use of a whole GHz of power. According to MobileTechWorld (via Engadget) the Liquid's processor will be underclocked to just 768 MHz.
There are several reasons for Acer to gimp their own processor. Chief among them is battery life. The A1 boasts up to a week of standby battery life, putting it far ahead of most power-sucking Android handsets. It's also possible the Liquid team underclocked the processor as a way to avoid overheating issues.

Android Smartbook Acer's Secret Weapon
Asus has delayed their Android-running Eee PC several times, but it now looks like they are getting ready to follow through with a launch early in 2010. This Android device will run with a 1 GHz Snapdragon processor, and is being marketed as a smartbook. Asus has high hopes for the gadget, and called it their “secret weapon” in a statement to Shanzai (via Gizmodo).
The itty-bitty smartbook could be a breakthrough in the development of netbooks. With the introduction of CULVs and other ultra-portable notebooks, netbooks have shifted towards smaller, lower-priced machines. When consumers buy a netbook, they want a device that is good for browsing, word processing, and social networking. A netbook needs to boot fast and have great battery life. That is pretty much it.

Acer A1 Liquid Is Powerful, Sexy
Acer, Dell, and Asus are all computer manufacturers that have tried their hand at building a smartphone. Asus worked with Garmin to create the sub-par (and too-late released) Nuvifone, while Dell's 3i has yet to leave China (and doesn't sound very impressive, spec-wise). Acer is the only one of the three that seems to really be taking their smartphone offerings seriously. The A1 Liquid is set to be one of the most powerful smartphones in the world, and it looks like it's going to have one hell of a gorgeous UI.
HDBlog.it (via Giz) has a whole gallery of pics. Acer has put in a single homescreen toggle that allows you to switch your WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth, and other functions on-or-off. They've also put in an alt-tab-like task manager, as well as a brand new dialer. It's clear that Acer isn't just throwing together an Android smartphone to take advantage of the craze. They've put some dedication into this machine.

Acer Aspire One AOD250 Dual Boot Android And Windows XP Netbook Is Official
As reported yesterday the new dual boot Acer Aspire One D250 is already available for pre-order on Amazon. Just now Acer made the dual boot Acer Aspire One AOD250 netbook official.
The 10.1-inch Aspire One AOD250 with Android and Windows XP lets you switch between Android and Windows XP Home operating systems with just a click of a mouse.
I do not quite understand why Acer is launching a new netbook with Windows XP and not Windows 7. Only reason I can see here that the netbook is aimed at Android fans and the Windows OS is secondary.

New Acer neoTouch, beTouch Smartphones Leaked
Acer is new to the smartphone business, but the products they have in the pipe right now look very promising. We've known for a while that the Acer F1 would pack the fabled 1 GHz Snapdragon processor. Now, thanks to Cloveblog (via Electronista we have much more information about this new family of Acer smartphones.
Currently Acer is calling these new phones by internal, pre-release codenames. There's the F1, the C1, E1, and L1, which will be renamed to the neoTouch, beTouch E100, beTouch E101, and the beTouch E200. The neoTouch is definitely the high-end mobile of the group; it's got a 1 GHz Snapdragon processor, 3.8" touchscreen, WinMo 6.5, a 5 MP camera, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1, and a microSD slot. It will support quad-band GSM and tri-band HSDPA.

HDD Compared To SSD On Acer Aspire One D250 Netbook
If you are still not convinced that an SSD upgrade is really beneficial in terms of overall performance like I am already, here is another comparison. I have upgraded an old but still sexy Thinkpad X40 with an SSD and the result is awesome. Also just recently I replaced the boot HDD on my Windows XP Desktop with an SSD and the resulting performance gains are dramatic.
iGadgetLive compared the overall performance of an Acer Aspire One D250 netbook between HDD and SSD.
Quote: "My Acer Aspire One D250 came with a standard mechanical hard drive, and recently I acquired another SSD drive so I figured why not swap the HDD out for the SSD as that seems the popular way to go these days. Now I knew the read and write speeds of the SSD would be much faster than the lowly 5400RPM hard drive, but I was curious as to how much of an actual affect it had on the system as a whole though. I wanted to know just how much an SSD affects everything in the system and not just the transfer rates or read/writes.
