Super Bowl 2010 Ads Almost Sold Out
In August we reported that Super Bowl 2010 ad sales are off to a slow start. Now the situation has changed completely and according to CNN CBS will have sold 90% of the available 30 second Super Bowl Ad slots by Thanksgiving.
NBC had to wait to reach the sellout point until January in 2008.

Amazon Black Friday Countdown Deal Is Acer Laptop With 5 Free Game Downloads
The Amazon Black Friday Countdown deal for today is featuring the new Acer AS5738Z-4111 Windows 7 Laptop bundled with five free game downloads.
The Acer AS5738Z-4111 features an 15.6 inch screen, 2.1GHz Intel Pentium T4300 Processor, 4GB DDR2 RAM, 320GB HDD and Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.
The price of the Acer AS5738Z is $499.99. The 5 download games are priced at $6.99 each. You save $34.95. This Acer laptop is ok, but this is not really a sexy deal, especially since I have a feeling the digital content is not valued as high as getting a package with a disc.

New Verizon Ads Hint At Verizon iPhone?
Christmas is coming up, and Verizon's launched a whole new bevy of ads in order to push their new smartphone line-up this holiday season. If you haven't already seen it on television, you can check out any of the ads on Verizon's YouTube stream. Most of the ads are your normal fare, but one of them has got me thinking.
The ad is set in the isle of misfit toys, and features the iPhone as a newcomer to the island. The interesting thing about this is that Verizon isn't attacking the iPhone itself in this ad. In fact, the line the ad states that the iPhone is a fantastic smartphone, shackled to a terrible carrier with poor 3G coverage. That's somewhat different than Big Red's previous tactics, which included focusing on the iPhones shortcomings.

Windows 7 Leads To PC Sales Surge
The Windows 7 launch was bound to do good things for PC sales. Vista was awful and Win 7 has been lauded by reviewers as the best new Microsoft OS since XP. No one will be surprised to hear that last month's launch lead to a bump in PC sales. What is surprising, is just how much they bumped up by.
Electronista reports that a Morgan Stanley analyst has come out with the first sales data on the Windows 7 launch. NPD sales data points to a 40% boost in PC sales during launch week, compared to sales at the same time last year. The exact nature of the sales hints at a huge amount of Windows 7 sales, rather than a rapid liquidation of existing Vista hardware.

Shipments of Bluetooth Headsets Shrink 28% in 2009
With many state and local governments adding new hands free laws to their books it might seem like 2009 would be a banner year for makers of Bluetooth headsets. Apparently, it is not such a great year for the industry according to Strategy Analytics.
The analytics firm reports that shipments of Bluetooth headsets are down 28% for the year so far. Shipments reached 19.2 million units in 2008 but will decline to 13.9 million by the end of 2009. Read more

HP Mini 110 Windows 7 Netbook Leads Bestseller Charts
Windows 7 netbooks have been on sale since Thursday when Microsoft officially launched Windows 7. Amazon has one of the broadest selections of netbooks on sale. My initial tip that the Asus Eee PC 1005HA with Windows 7 Starter would be the bestselling Windows 7 netbook was wrong. The new HP Mini 110 is currently #1 followed by three Asus Eee PC 1005HA netbooks (two XP and one running Win7).
Features of the HP Mini 110 include 1.6Ghz N270 Atom CPU, 1GB RAM, 10.1" LED Anti-glare display, 160GB HDD, 802.11g Wifi, 92% of full-size keyboard, 6-cell battery and Windows 7 Starter.

New Apple TV Ads Put Finger In Windows 7 Upgrade Wound
Apple published three new Get a Mac commercials in time for the Windows 7 launch. All three new ads target the potential upgrade pain Windows user could have going to Windows 7.
The new Get A Mac ads are actually not funny, but highlight the situation Windows XP users are in. Upgrading to Windows 7 means complete new installation, there is no in place upgrade path like in Vista.
Additionally Windows 7 is a big leap for XP users in terms of User interface. If you have tasted the Mac experience like I have, XP users get tempted to switch entirely to Apple instead of upgrading to Windows 7.

Verizon Attacks AT&T In New Ads
Despite their newly announced plans to partner up with Google and throw their hats into the Android ring, Verizon hasn't quite given up on the iPhone yet. Their new series of ads (Digital Daily) attack AT&T, while simultaneously making the case that Big Red would be a far superior iPhone carrier.
"Want 5 Times More 3G Coverage? There's A Map For That." The new ads' slogan is a clear riff on the iPhone "there's an app for that" commercials. The Verizon ad also implores users to pick a network before they pick a phone, an obvious reference to the millions of customers who joined AT&T just to get their hands on Apple's brainchild.

Apple App Store: 2 Billion Downloads
This April Apple announced that over 1 billion applications had been downloaded from their App Store. For twelve short months, that was quite an achievement. But it wasn't good enough for Apple, which is why they've gone out and topped themselves again. Apple is reporting that total App Store downloads have now passed the 2 billion mark. Holy cash cow, Batman!
In just two and a half months the App Store has managed to rake in another half billion downloads, and increase its selection from 65,000 to 85,000. That's a little bit amazing, and it makes me wonder how long the App Store can continue to increase at such a rate. Right now it has both novelty going for it, and the fact that the iPhone is still selling like gangbusters. Eventually, things will have to level off.
