Best Buy has announced that it is now offering a new whole home audio solution called Rocketboost that is available exclusively at Best Buy stores. Rocketfish is the Best Buy internal brand and the products from the company I have tested have all been good.

The line of Rocketboost products includes a Wireless Amplified Audio Receiver, Wireless Sender/Receiver, Wireless outdoor speaker, and a Wireless HD Audio Starter Kit with a sender and a receiver. When combined all of the devices allow you to send from up to five sources to nine receivers throughout the home. Read more

If you're looking for an inexpensive video recording solution, the Zoom Q3 is worth checking out. It just came to Amazon.com today for $249.00, which is pretty great for a hand-portable camcorder with HD audio.

The Q3 features built-in stereo condenser microphones, a 2 GB SD card (with up to 32 GB SDHC cards accepted), a camcorder capable of 640x480 video resolution at 30 fps, on-board editing software, YouTube uploading software, and Apple Quicktime. The back of the device mounts a 2.4" LCD screen.

That's a lot of money for a pair of earbuds, but if you don't have to replace them every three or four months, it'll be worth it.

Gizmodo describes it as a 37-key sampler/music editing/creation tool for the Mac or PC. It rocks an iPod/iPhone dock, and can be connected to computers via USB or MIDI in/out connections. On its own battery power, the microSAMPLER lasts around 4 hours. It comes stock with music editing software and a microphone.

Audi e-tron Debuts at IAA 2009

How about an electric car with four electric motors? Audi unveiled the Audi e-tron at the IAA 2009 with 313hp and an amazing torque of 4,500nm.
The e-tron accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (0 – 62.14 mph) in 4.8 seconds, and from 60 to 120 km/h (37.28 – 74.56 mph) in 4.1 seconds. The lithium-ion battery provides a truly useable energy content of 42.4 kilowatt hours to enable a range of approximately 248 kilometers.

The e-tron is based on the Audi R8 design and is packed with interesting technologies like the use of a heat pump. Read more

Audio-Technica Unveils Headphones for Back to School

Audio-Technica has announced a new set of headphones that it says are perfect for students going back to school and wanting to listen to music while they study. The headphones are called the over-ear ATH-ANC7b and the ATH-ANC3 in-ear headphones. The headphones carry MSRPs of $219.95 and $169.95.

Both sets feature active noise cancellation technology that promises to block 85% of outside noise. The systems use high-power driver magnets and offer clear and spacious sound. For users not looking for active noise cancelling designs, the company also offers other headphones. Read more

DOCOMO unveils Spatial Audio Transmission for Mobile Phones

NTT DOCOMO announced today that it has developed a spatial audio transmission technology for mobile phones that enables a user to assign a spatial position to each sound source when listening to multiple sound sources, such as during a game or a conference call.

The new technology enables a user listening with headphones to hear each speaker's voice as if it were coming from a unique direction, creating a virtual face-to-face communication environment. 3D video games have offered this experience for a while and it works pretty well.
To have spatial sound sources on phone calls sounds interesting as long as you get good voice reception. These days I am still happy to hear one person loud a clearly.

Netbooks Reach New Audiences in Rough Economy

Netbooks are reaching new audiences according to research firm Strategy Analytics. The cheap and portable machines are selling much better than other categories of the computer market. According to the research firm, a full 2/3 of the netbooks on the market sell for under $500.

When it comes to netbooks, predictably Windows XP is the predominant operating system with over 50% of the netbooks sold using the Windows OS. Slightly less than a quarter of netbooks sold are running some variety of Linux. Read more
