iPhone Baby Shaker App Still Causing Controversy
Less than a week after it was approved and abruptly pulled from the App Store, child abuse prevention proponents are still demanding action from Apple over the iPhone Baby Shaker application.
In an open letter to Apple’s board of directors, Patrick Donahue, founder of the Sarah Jane Brain Foundation, claimed, “Right now there are potentially 1000s of ticking time bombs (we don’t know how many people actually downloaded the BABY SHAKER application); however, all it will take is one 13-year-old (like the child who downloaded your 1 billionth application) who learns from his iPhone the way to quiet his 6-week-old sister is by shaking her as hard and as fast as he can and completely altering this child’s life and his family.”
Donahue, whose organization advocates for Shaken Baby Syndrome awareness, lists three demands of Apple, including educating those that downloaded the app on the harmful effects of Shaken Baby Syndrome, attending a panel discussion, and the company “utilizing the creative and technological resources of Apple and AT&T to work on the Prevention of Shaken Baby Syndrome and to offer a personal apology to the families and victims of Shaken Baby Syndrome.”
Apple has already apologized for the app, saying in a statement, “"This application was deeply offensive and should not have been approved for distribution on the App Store. When we learned of this mistake, the app was removed immediately. We sincerely apologize for this mistake and thank our customers for bringing this to our attention."

Apple Apologizes for iPhone’s Baby Shaker
Apple apologized today for the Baby Shaker application released in the App Store earlier this week, calling the app “deeply offensive.”
Apple had pulled the $.99 app on Wednesday following outrage from child welfare groups and advocates, as I4U reported earlier this week.
True to its name, Baby Shaker allowed users to silence a crying baby’s screams by violently shaking the iPhone.

Apple to iPhone Users: No More 'Baby Shaker'
It looks like the arbiters of good taste in the App Store let one slip Monday when they approved Baby Shaker, a $.99 app from Sikalosoft that allows users to silence a virtual baby’s cries by shaking the iPhone. Players “win” when the virtual baby is muted, triggering red x’es over the baby’s eyes.
According to CNET, the app description included this gem from the makers, "See how long you can endure his or her adorable cries before you just have to find a way to quiet the baby down!"

ETRADE Baby Super Bowl Ad 2009 is cute
ETrade brought the Baby Super Bowl ads back again this year and it is again funny and very cute.
Besides discussing how ETrade can help in the bad economy the 2nd Baby in the spot tries some singing.
Last year the ETrade Baby Super Bowl ad was the most viewed on TiVo. I'm not sure if it can pull that off again this year against funny spots like the Bridgestone Taters.

Short Take: Baby Alive
I have a 4-year-old daughter and she likes to watch Dora the Explorer. It seems for a while every commercial between Dora was for Baby Alive. All I heard was that she wanted the baby that pee pees and poo poos. So I did what any dad who does product reviews would do -- I called up Hasbro and had a sample sent. My daughter was a little upset that the only Caucasian baby was a blonde, she wanted one with dark hair like her. Still she was literally beside herself with excitement over Baby Alive.
The key to this doll is that you can mix real food and feed the baby along with water she drinks. The stuff literally goes right through the baby and is deposited in the diaper. Feeding the baby is much like feeding a real tot, which is to say food gets everywhere. The Baby Alive had it on her face, her shirt, her diaper and my daughter was coated in a healthy dose as well. Spa Baby European Style Tub
Bathe a baby in a bucket? YES!
The Spa Baby European Style Tub is a concept that’s new to the US, but Europeans
have embraced it as an alternative to standard baby tubs.
Here’s why the parents will love it: First of all, in the “sitting” position the
rounded shape of the Spa Baby Tub helps support the baby, the parents only need
to support the baby’s head under the chin, giving one free hand to wash and
comfort the baby.
The baby will be warm and secure (like the nine months in the womb) and
everybody, baby and parents, will be chilling out.
Secondly, it takes up less space than standard tubs, plus its small size means
you’ll use less water.
On top of all the practical considerations, it’s much more aesthetically
pleasing then those standard plastic tubs. And hey, it could be used as a
planter once the baby outgrows it…

Baby Gifts: Graco Sweetpeace Soothing Center
Don’t compare the Graco Sweetpeace Soothing Center to an old school swing, it
is so much more and unlike any swing before it: It is a whole baby (and
parent…!) soothing “system”.
Graco Sweetpeace Soothing Center is designed to simulate the comfort of the womb
with customizable touch, sound, sights and movement.
The SweetPeace connects to the motor at the bottom side. With that, it mimics
the motion your baby enjoyed in the mummy’s womb, or when cradled in the
parent’s arms. Side to side. Back to front. Head facing in or out. Fast or slow.
The angle at which the baby sits can also be adjusted, from reclined to upright.
The parents can choose one of the multiple positions to tailor the swing’s
motion to the baby’s preference.
In addition to the motion, the Graco Sweetpeace offers a variety of sounds, from
heartbeat and swooshing sounds to music. Or just plug in an ipod with your
favorite tunes.
Additional reasons the Sweetpeace makes a perfect gift for all parents? The
colors are neutral for a calming effect and it has an adjustable canopy to
control the incoming light.
