Best Buy Launches DTV Facebook Application and Microsite
Best Buy has launched two new programs that it says are intended to help prepare consumers for the analog to digital broadcast transition on February 17, 2009. One of the programs is a microsite that gives consumers access to home theater specialists at Best Buy to answer DTV related questions.
Best Buy also announced an interactive application for the Facebook social networking site to promote DTV awareness. Campaigns to get consumers to buy digital converters if needed and to be aware that the transition is coming. Campaigns are at a fevered pitch now that we are less than 200 days away from the transition. Read more

iPhone could give Best Buy Sales Boost: Analysts
ATLANTA (Reuters) - Best Buy Co will likely gain market share from an
agreement to sell Apple Inc's iPhone at its 970 U.S. stores, analysts said on Wednesday.
The newly launched 3G iPhone, which lets users connect to the Web at high
speeds, is expected to be one of the hottest gadgets for the holiday season.
Best Buy hopes it will draw more traffic and additional purchases from customers
coming for the iPhone.

iPhone 3G to be sold at Best Buy
In the United States the iPhone is only sold at AT&T and Apple Stores. Now Best Buy officially announced that they will carry the iPhone 3G and become the first independent reseller for the iPhone in the U.S. AppleInsider reported about this deal before it became official.
Best Buy will offer the iPhone 3G at 970 Best Buy stores in addition to 16 Best Buy Mobile specialty outlets beginning September 7th.

Best Buy Announces Launch of Best Buy Express
Best Buy announced today the official launch of its Best Buy Express automate kiosks in airports around the US. The launch of the kiosks is part of a pilot program to offer familiar products at the same prices found in stores.
Products that will be available in the kiosks will include computer accessories, digital cameras, flash drives, MP3 players, headphones, speakers, unlocked phones, portable game devices, gift cards, travel adapters, and chargers. The kiosks will be found in Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, and San Francisco. The kiosk rollout will continue through the beginning of September. Read more

Best Buy Says Samsung Instinct Sets Sales Records
Best Buy has announced that the Samsung Instinct smartphone available exclusively from Sprint has set a new high for handset sales in its stores. Best Buy says that the Instinct has become its best selling handset of the last two years.
Best Buy says that the Instinct began breaking sales records within two week of being available at Best Buy Mobile. Best Buy Mobile is the wireless arm of the electronics giant. Best Buy also offers a program for the Instinct called Walk Out Working that makes the phone fully functional when the customer leaves the store for email and all other features. Read more

Best Buy Says Consumers Will Wait Until After DTV Transition to Get Ready
Best Buy surveyed shoppers and found that nearly 9 in 10 customers are aware of the digital broadcast transition in early 2009. Despite being aware Best Buy says many consumers are still confused about why the transition is happening and what they need to do.
The survey shows that 60% of customers know the February 17, 2009 deadline and 54% don’t know why this is happening. Best Buy says 31% don’t know what type of TV they have, and 43% of those who plan to prepare will opt for cable or satellite service. The survey also says that 21% know they need to prepare but say they can’t afford to. Many also believe the convertors will cost more than they actually do. Read more

Best Buy Stores come to Europe
Best Buy announced a deal with the The Carphone Warehouse that will bring Best Buy Stores to Europe.
Best Buy stores in the U.S. are huge consumer electronics temples. If they can bring that scale to Europe they could hurt currently leading consumer electronics chains like Metro's Saturn and Media Markt or Dixons in the UK.

Asus announced today that its latest Eee PC 4G running Windows XP is now available to purchase and try hands on in select Best Buy stores. As popular as the Eee has been many users have been waiting for a windows XP running version for compatibility with Office applications.

Best Buy Awards Over $10 Million in gift Cards to HD DVD buyers
The end of the format wars between HD DVD and Blu-ray was good for most people, but for the early adopters out there who had backed HD DVD the failure of the format was not good news. To help appease customers that purchased HD DVD gear at Best Buy gift cards are coming.

Best Buy announced that it now has its store brand Insignia Digital convertor Boxes available for the analog to digital transition in 2009. The Insignia convertor box is coupon eligible and will go on sale on February 17, 2008.
Best Buy is launching a dedicated hotline that consumers can call to ask questions about the transition and speak with home theater specialists for help with the conversion. ClearPlay DVD Content-Filtering DVD Player Available at Best Buy
ClearPlay announced today that its content filtering DVD player is now available in Best Buy stores. The ClearPlay player allows parents and others the ability to edit out content they find objectionable such as sex or violence.

Best Buy Makes Holiday Shopping Easier
Best Buy is trying to make holiday shopping easier and more enjoyable for shoppers this year. Best Buy is trying to do this by making changes to their store and online. The new in-store and online initiatives for the 2007 holiday season include new customer assistance. Best Buy says it has cross-trained about 30% of its floor sales staff to the new Customer Assistant position. These assistants are trained in all areas of the store.
The returns policy has also been extended with the product return deadline extended to January 31. That means gifts purchased as early as November 4th can be returned until January 31. This even includes items with a traditional 14-day return period like computers. Read more

Japanese Market UMPCs at Best Buy
Best Buy is offering under their Escape online shop a couple of UMPCs and notebooks which are Japanese market only. They offer these through a partnership with the pioneering Japanese notebook exporter Dynamism.
Dynamism is in the business since 1997, and we worked with them in the past on a couple of product reviews. They are a great company to work with. Looking at the current limited offering in the Best Buy Escape shop, you also can just go directly to Dynamism and order there. Pricing is the same. The partnership is good marketing for Dynamism and should help them spread the word.
Dynamism says that there will be more products in the Escape shop in the near future.
