Consumer Tech Sales on Black Friday 2008 Decline
Black Friday 2008 has come and gone with more than a few reports of tragedy among the good deals. According to research firm NPD Black Friday sales have declined for the first time ever during the week of the busiest shopping day of the year.
NPD says that discounting was much less this year than in previous years and there was an emphasis on online shopping and less exciting products being offered. Despite reduced sales a few bright spots emerged, with one of them being notebook PC sales. Read more

Xbox 360 outsells Sony PS3 3-to-1 on Black Friday
Microsoft announces that the Xbox 360 set new records in sales on Black Friday. Apparently the Xbox 360 outsold the Sony PS3 3-to-1 and Microsoft sold 25% more Xbox 360 consoles compared to Black Friday 2007.
The Xbox 360 has now an install base of 25 million and an online community of more than 14 million Xbox LIVE members. In Europe Xbox 360 console sales in Europe are up as much as 400%, with sales nearly double year over year and reaching 7 million consoles sold this generation.
I already predicted a very strong holiday sales season for the Xbox 360 as the combination of low prices, the new NXE and Netflix support are making the Xbox 360 a very hot console buy compared to the others. You just get a lot for your money.

eBay Sees Black Friday Shopping Increase
eBay reports that it saw an increase in shopping activities on its network of websites including eBay, PayPal, and Shopping.com. eBay shoppers reportedly took advantage of the $1 holiday door busters and Bid on $1 auctions.
Shopping.com reports that the most searched for item in its store was the Nintendo Wii and the Wii Fit. PayPal says that it saw 34% more transactions than it had the same time in 2007 and a 26% increase in online payment volume for Black Friday. The most sold item on eBay for Black Friday was the Nintendo Wii with 3,171 sold and the Wii Fit with 1,059 sold. Read more

Black Friday 2008 turned to Cyber Friday
Based in the initial reports the brick and mortar stores saw weaker Black Friday Sales. As I predicted already earlier this week more and more shoppers do not get out into the cold night to score a Black Friday doorbuster deal. They stay home and shop for the great deals online.
According to data just released by eBay, PayPal saw a 34% more transactions and 26% increase in online payment volume compared to Black Friday 2007.
Additionally PayPal's Payflow Gateway data shows that on Black Friday consumers are shopping the most during lunch time, with 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM being the busiest purchasing time for the past three years.

Walmart Black Friday Sale extends to Saturday
Walmart reuses their in-store Black Friday ad for today, Saturday. This means you can get the same deals Walmart offered on Black Friday, if there is still stock left.
This is kind of a risky proposition as you might be not finding any of the hot Black Friday items in the stores. I rather would stick to online Black Friday extended sales like the one on Amazon.com. There you know that the product you want to buy is still in stock.

Cyber Monday 2008 next Goal for Shoppers as Black Friday is History
Black Friday 2008 is history, but sales of course continue throughout the weekend. So if you did not get your hands on one of the Black Friday doorbuster deals at your local Walmart then there is still a chance to find a great deal this weekend.
A strong Rumor has it that there might be even better deals today at some retailers like Frys. Frys has apparently a whole 8 page ad with better deals than on Black Friday for today, Saturday. Read this discussion on Fatwallet. Buy the way Fry's has the worst online site I know of any electronics retailer. It is so bad that I do not even link to it.
Of course there is Cyber Monday after this Thanksgiving Sales weekend that let us hope for even better deals than we have seen so far. Touted as the biggest online Sales Event, online shoppers will tune in from work to the Cyber Monday offers of the major retailers.

Shoppers sleep in on Black Friday or shop Online?
Black Friday is supposed to mark the biggest sales day of the year. The first reports appear from the parking lots and malls throughout the nation on the shopper turn out. USA Today says shoppers cautiously appear.
There have been already lines, but apparently the notion is less turn out than last year. LA Times has a report from the not to shabby turnout at the Citadel Outlets in the City of Commerce which opened already 11pm on Thanksgiving Day.
