New Application Monitors BlackBerry Usage
A new usage tracking application from Matsch Systems called MobiNow is available that is a turnkey software as a service platform for tracking BlackBerry usage independent of the carrier. The software also takes advantage of GPS optionally.
The application generates a background cellular call record for each call and text message and at user-defined intervals; it uploads the record along with GPS data if wanted. This allows businesses to monitor corporate devices for abuse and keep track of employees. Read more

Palm unveils Treo Pro to battle BlackBerry

Pink BlackBerry Curve 8330 and BlackBerry Pearl 8130 announced by Verizon
Verizon Wireless announces the BlackBerry Curve 8330 and the BlackBerry Pearl 8130 smartphones in Pink.
Verizon targets college students with the pink BlackBerries. I am not sure why - Verizon thinks that it would add flair when they are at school or interviewing for an internship or job.

BlackBerry Thunder Screenshots leaked
New photos of the rumored BlackBerry Thunder touchscreen phone appeared on CrackBerry showing the on-screen keyboard.
The images show the virtual keyboard of the BlackBerry Thunder, which can be displayed in landscape and portrait mode with different layouts.
The keyboard graphics still look very bland, but these screenshots are apparently from an early build of the BlackBerry Thunder 4.7 OS.

Blackberry Bold delayed
RIM announced the Blackberry Bold in early May. The Boy Genius Report got the information from AT&T that the Blackberry Bold is delayed until August. The reasons are apparently issues with battery life and overheating.
I actually did not know about a more specific release date than "Summer". Oh well, the iPhone 3G is taking over all available mindshare next month when it gets released on July 11th anyway.

BlackBerry Bold first Look
RIM introduced the BlackBerry Bold a week ago. We already reported about a BlackBerry Bold hands-on preview from a meeting. Howard Chui now has a review of a pre-production BlackBerry Bold published.

BlackBerry Thunder Touchscreen Smartphone Rumor
BlackBerry is rumored since last year that they are working on a touchscreen phone to really go head to head with the Apple iPhone. Last year one rumor suggested that the BlackBerry 9000 will be a touchscreen phone. Well that has proven as false, as the BlackBerry 9000 aka Bold has a QWERTY keyboard and just got announced this week.
The latest BlackBerry touchscreen phone rumor is that the codename for it is BlackBerry Thunder and it is scheduled for Q3 2008.

BlackBerry to come to Korea
SK Telecom is apparently planning to introduce the BlackBerry smartphone in Korea. It is actually surprising that BlackBerry phones are not ubiquitous by now.
Apparently regulations have prevented RIM from marketing the BlackBerry in Korea. Cell phones in Korea are required to use the Wireless Internet Platform for Interoperability (WIPI).

RIM unveiled today the BlackBerry Bold. PC World already got their hands on one and published a hands-on review of the BlackBerry Bold.

Quickoffice Gives BlackBerry Native Office Document Support
Quickoffice announced today that it has a new version of its office productivity software, eOffice, which allows BlackBerry handhelds to open, view, edit and create native Microsoft Office documents in their original format.
The application works on all currently shipping BlackBerry handhelds connected through both BlackBerry Enterprise Server and BlackBerry Internet Service. The eOffice for BlackBerry is available now and requires no upgrades to the device or the server to function. Read more

$150m BlackBerry Partners Fund goes against $100m Apple iFund
RIM and Thomson Reuters today announced plans to launch the BlackBerry Partners Fund, a US$150 million venture capital fund, to invest in mobile applications and services for the BlackBerry platform and other mobile platforms. The Fund is to be co-managed by JLA Ventures and RBC Venture Partners.
Apple recently announced the iFund with $100m in capital to fund iPhone and iTouch applications. RIM's venture capital fund is clearly aiming to counter Apple's initiative.
