Sony PS3 Bluetooth headset announced by Sony
Sony announced a Bluetooth headset for the Sony PS3.
With this new wireless headset, PS3 users will be able to enjoy immersive on-line communication on new software titles supporting on-line chat feature, such as SOCOM: CONFRONTATION available on October 30th, Resistance 2 available on November 13th, and MotorStorm: Pacific Rift available this autumn.
The ear hook type headset is designed to fit either ear. Installed with Bluetooth, it pairs automatically with the PS3 by simply using the bundled USB cable.

Ozmo Devices Wi-Fi PAN Mouse to fight Bluetooth Mice
Ozmo Devices is developing low-power Wi-Fi Personal Area Network (Wi-Fi PAN) solutions that are supposed to compete with Bluetooth and other shortrange wireless solutions.
Ozmo Devices and Avago Technologies announced today an optical mouse design kit leveraging Ozmo's Wi-Fi PAN solution.
The Ozmo Devices Wi-Fi PAN solution enables connectivity between peripherals such as mice and headsets and Wi-Fi–enabled platforms. The reference design kit, OZMO-AV35-RD, utilizes Ozmo Devices OZMO1000 IC, and Avago’s ADNB-3532 optical mouse sensor.

Samsung YA-SBR510 Bluetooth Speaker
Samsung unveiled the YA-SBR510 Bluetooth stereo speaker for their line of mp3 players.
The Bluetooth 2.0 speakers have a reach of 10m and apparently feature a motion sensor that switches the system on when you come in range within 5m.
The Samsung YA-SBR510 features 30W of power in 3 channels.

Step Brothers Standee in Theaters Give Free Voicetones via Bluetooth
Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly’s new film Step Brothers is giving cell phone users with a Bluetooth handset the ability to download free voice tones right from the theater standee advertisement. Moviegoers at 50 different Regal Entertainment Group theaters can get the voice tones free by downloading them from the standee.
The standee has a family album with candid photos of the family as they blend and is equipped with bluecasting media servers to distribute the voice tones. Four different lines from the movie are being offered. One free voicetone can be received via a text message as well as checking out the movie website. Read more

Toyota will Offer Bluetooth Hands-Free Systems in 15 Models
Toyota announced that it will be offering hands free Bluetooth systems on 15 of its models including the upcoming 2009 Venza when it goes on sale in the fall. Toyota says that its Bluetooth hands-free system will work with most mobile phones and is built into optional DVD navigation and JBL audio systems.
Toyota says that users of the hands-free systems will get the benefits including phone operation with built-in mic and audio speakers, one touch call answering via steering wheel controls or nav screen. The system automatically mutes the audio when a call is made or received. DVD navigation systems allow for placing calls from the last calls received list and voice commands can make or receive calls. Read more

i.Tech Dynamic has announced the launch of its latest Bluetooth headset called the i.VoicePRO Bluetooth Headset. The headset is the first on the market with a dual microphone that uses Bluetooth Profile v2.1 for voice quality.
The headset uses a dual mic design that prevents extraneous sounds from being picked up during conversations. The headset is also designed to pick up clear speech even in windy conditions. Awareness of Bluetooth Technology At All Time High
Bluetooth SIG says that with this week marking the 10th anniversary of Bluetooth’s launch, awareness of the technology is at an all time high. The group says that 85% of consumers know what Bluetooth is and recognize the technology.
In 4 of the 6 countries polled 60% of consumers say they own Bluetooth enabled devices and 78% say they will pay more for devices using Bluetooth technology. 57% of those polled say that Bluetooth makes their lives easier. Read more

Don't mess with the Zohan Theater Display with Bluetooth
Adam Sandler’s new flick You Don’t Mess with the Zohan is coming soon to theaters. As part of the promotion for the movie some theaters will get a display that features a stylist’s chair. When movie goers sit in the chair they will be able to download voicetones to their cell phones.
The special displays will be in 25 Regal Entertainment theaters nationwide starting on May 2nd. Fans will be able to use their Bluetooth phones to get six free voicetones without needing Internet connectivity. Read more

Today I attended an event organized by the Bluetooth SIG and Navispace in Munich. The Bluetooth Sports & Fitness Day focused on the applications of the next generation of Bluetooth now officially named Bluetooth Low Energy.
Bluetooth Low Energy has evolved from the Wibree standard from 2006. As the name implies Bluetooth LE chips need a fraction of the power today's Bluetooth chips consume. Now watches and sensors can be fitted with Bluetooth using normal button cell batteries.

ABI Research Says High Speed Bluetooth is a Winner
ABI Research released a report that says high speed Bluetooth will be a winner with mobile users who transfer large files. High speed Bluetooth uses both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi to improve over normal Bluetooth transmission rates.
"Bluetooth penetration in cellular handsets is at an all-time high," says senior analyst Douglas McEuen. "But it has a short range and fairly low data transfer capabilities. Users' growing desire to share pictures, audio, and video makes demands on Bluetooth that it was never designed to handle." So the Bluetooth Special Interest Group has announced a technology - "High Speed Bluetooth" - that hands off transmissions of large data files (such as multimedia) to the faster 802.11 radios that are increasingly found in the same Bluetooth-equipped devices. When that extra throughput is no longer needed, Bluetooth automatically takes over again, resulting in power savings. Read more
