Sharp Mirumo 934SH Phone Takes Home CEATEC 2009 Grand Prix Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review Like CES, the CEATEC show in Japan hands out awards for innovative products. The CEATEC 2009 Innovations Award got judged by a panel of U.S. Journalists.
The Grand Prix award went to Mirumo, a dual-screen mobile phone by Sharp, and Mr. Kanellos (Greentech Media) stated the reason for the selection was not only because the product realized an integration of telephone and IC chip but also generated a new level of technology. Read more

We cannot be there, but Panasonic was nice enough to offer up some video footage from their booth at the CEATEC 2009 featuring the Panasonic Full HD 3D technology and more.

Panasonic exhibits the 50-inch Full HD 3D Plasma HDTV and Active Shutter Glasses we reported about last month. The shutter glasses actually look pretty stylish. Read more

Bendable OLED Displays have been the topic of prototypes for a couple of years now. Sony shows at the CEATEC 2009 a nice design of a notebook that only has a bendable OLED display inside the covers.
This design would of course be ideal for the implementation of the Microsoft Courier dual screen Tablet concept. Read more

Like the Gscreen Spacebook which appeared in August the two screens slide behind each other for compact transport.
Specifications of the Dual Screen Notebook prototype include two 10.1-inch screens, AMD Athlon NeoMv-40 CPU, 4GB RAM and 160GB HDD. Read more

The TGS is still going on, but we actually found out that the CEATEC 2008 trade-show was full of booth babes as well. The CEATEC 08 took place in the first week of October.
AkihabaraNews published a gallery with 50 photos featuring the CEATEC Booth Babes. DoCoMo had a whole brigade of girls at the show. I counted 20. Read more

CEATEC 2007 Booth Babe Photos Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review The CEATEC 2007 is still underway in Japan. Not much exciting news came from that show this year. Akihabara News reports that even the number of booth babes dropped from last year. It looks like booth babes are on the decline now in Asia also.

The next potential chance to see booth babes is the E for All show in Los Angeles starting October 18th.

Apparently the murata robot is still cycling in slow motion, but he keeps his balance. Is it not easier keeping balance while going fast? Read more

CEATEC 2005: LCD Versus Plasma TV Controversy Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review Japanese newspaper Nihon Keizai Shimbun (via Nikkei.Net [Subscription]) reports about LCD TV manufacturers complaint about a direct quality comparison to Plasma TV at the CEATEC 2005.

The Matushita, Pioneer and Hitachi supported Advanced PDP Development Corp. had setup a booth comparing Plasma TVs next to LCD TVs. Sharp and other LCD TV manufactures got them to stop it on grounds of comparative advertising. ADPD said its just an objective technology show case.
Kind of funny story. I for my part favor Plasmas for 42 inch and up, but I would also not say no to a Sharp AQUOS 65 inch LCD HDTV. Read more

CEATEC 2005: Pioneer Shows HARUKA, a 3D Floating Visualization Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review Pioneer Precision Machinery Corp. demonstrates at the CEATEC 2005 an implementation of the company's 3D floating vision technology.

Haruka is a virtual receptionist inside a 210x180x210mm box that floats in 3D like the projections of R2D2 in Star Wars. This must be cool to see first hand. No glasses are necessary to see the 3D character.
The 3D character is also interactive. It has sensors that detects if a person is coming close or tries to touch the 3D projection. Pineer added also voice to the virtual receptionist enabling it to says things like: "My name is HARUKA, I am your guide". Read more

CEATEC Japan 2005: Toshiba Shouts: HD DVD is REAL! Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review The CEATEC Japan 2005 started today in Japan. Toshiba and the HD DVD Promotion Group will use this venue to demonstrate that their HD DVD is real.

Toshiba shows a prototype HD DVD connected to Toshiba's "Z1000" series (Toshiba's new high definition TVs). The CEATEC Toshiba booth will also feature HD DVD discs and notebook PC integrating a slim HD DVD read drive.

Most of the electronics companies showing their new products at the CEATEC 2004 already announced them before-hand. So there are not that many really new and totally surprising products. The only one maybe is the red bluetooth robot J4 from JVC. See story on Engadget.
