LG announced today the LG-KC910 8MP camera phone. The KC910 is offering a digital camera functionality that based on the specifications is already very close to mainstream pocket cameras.
Camera features of the LG-KC910 include 8MP resolution, ISO 1600 sensitivity, Xenon flash, automatic and manual focus, image stabilizer, DivX video recording and integrated GPS geotagging.
To feature geotagging for photos is a great synergy for mobile phones as they start to feature a GPS chip by default. Read more

Samsung Announces L310W Digital Camera

Samsung announced another new digital camera at IFA called the L310W. Samsung says that the camera is designed for intermediate users and has a 13.6MP lens. Other features of the camera include dual image stabilization, a 2.7-inch LCD and a 3.6x optical zoom lens.

The lens is a 28mm wide-angle unit allowing more of the scene to be in an image at the same time. Other features include auto red eye fix, MPEG-4 video recording, face detection, blink detection, smile shot, beauty shot, self portrait and more. Read more

Samsung Unveils 14MP Compact Camera at IFA

Samsung announced the new NV100HD digital camera at IFA in Berlin. The camera is the flagship of the Samsung line with 14.7-megapixels -- the highest resolution in a compact camera so far. The lens is a 28mm wide angle and the LCD on the rear of the camera is a 3-inch unit.

The camera features HD output to big screen TVs and it features 3.6x optical zoom. Other features include digital image stabilization and the ability to record 720p video. The LCD has 460k pixels and should make for good quality image viewing. Read more

Canon Launches New A-Series and Ultra-Zoom Cameras

Canon launched a revamped A-Series of cameras along with a new series of ultra-Zoom cameras today. Two new cameras were added to the Canon A-series including the A1000 IS and the A2000 IS. Both of the cameras are point-and-shoot designs with a slim profile and have 10-megapixel resolutions. The A1000 IS has 4x optical zoom and the A2000 IS has 6x optical zoom.

Both use the DIGIX III image processor and the A1000 has a 2.5-inch LCD while the A2000 uses a 3-inch LCD. Both have face detection, motion detection, and red-eye correction along with image stabilization. The SX110 IS camera has the same features except for a 10x optical zoom and 9-megapixel resolution. The A1000 will retail for $199.99, the A2000 for $249.99 and the SX110 for $299.99. Availability for the new cameras will be September. Read more

Canon Launches E1 Compact Camera

Canon launched a new compact digital camera today called the PowerShot E1. The camera features 10-megapixels with a 4x optical zoom and image stabilization. The E1 also has face detection and Easy mode.

The camera comes in three colors including -- white, blue, and pink. Seventeen different shooting modes are available to users and the camera gets power from a pair of AA batteries. The LCD is 2.5-inches and the camera uses a DIGIC III image processor. Availability for the E1 is mid-September with a price of $199.99. Read more

Canon shipped 100 Million compact Digital Cameras

Canon today announced that it has reached a new milestone by shipping its 100 millionth compact digital camera.
Canon first began producing digital cameras in 1996 at Oita Canon Inc., which continues to handle the bulk of the company's digital camera production, in addition to such manufacturing subsidiaries as Canon Opto (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. and Canon Zhuhai, Inc. in China.

Since releasing the PowerShot 600 (photo) as Canon's first compact digital camera for sale to the general public in July 1996, the company has thus far launched a total of 106 digital camera models across the globe. Read more

Radiohead House of Cards Video uses Lasers instead of Cameras

Radiohead produced a cool new video for their House of Cards song from the In Rainbows album using no video cameras.

Instead two technologies were used to capture 3D images: Geometric Informatics and Velodyne LIDAR. Geometric Informatics scanning systems produce structured light to capture 3D images at close proximity, while a Velodyne Lidar system that uses multiple lasers is used to capture large environments such as landscapes. In this video, 64 lasers rotating and shooting in a 360 degree radius 900 times per minute produced all the exterior scenes. Read more

Kodak has announced another new digital camera, this time in its M-series. The Kodak EasyShare M1093 Is camera has a 10MP sensor and a 3x optical zoom lens. The LCD on the camera is a 3-inch wide-angle system and it can shoot HD pictures and video.

Other features include image stabilization, intelligent scene detection, intelligent capture control and intelligent image processing. Videos are captured in HD quality with MPEG-4 compression. Sport in videos can also be marked for easy access with video marking, face detection, high ISO sensitivity and a rechargeable battery round out the features. Kodak Unveils new Ultra-Zoom Z-series Camera

Kodak has added a new super zoom camera to its line called the Kodak EasyShare Z1015 IS. The new camera has a 15x Schneider-Kreuznach Varigon optical zoom lens with image stabilization. The lens has a wide angle setting of f/2.8 28mm as well.

The Z1015 IS has a 10MP sensor and features a best in class 0.22 second click-to-capture speed for fast action shots. The camera also has Kodak’s Smart Capture feature which automatically adjusts settings for the best image in a given scene. ISO sensitivity is up to ISO 6400 at 3MP. Cell Phones are Growing as Camera of Choice

If you go to a party or sporting event odds are you will see someone shooting pictures with their camera phone. The good part about a camera phone is that we almost always have our phone on us allowing us to take pictures at any moment. The bad part about camera phones is that the cameras in them tend to be subpar.

Wirefly.com did a survey that shows the camera phone is becoming the camera of choice for many adults. The survey says that 63.8% of adult’s age 18 to 30 say they use the cell phone camera at least once per week and 26.3% say they use it daily. Read more
