Saturday Night Live Opening Shot in 1080p With Canon Eos

When you're a camera company, it's easy to get free publicity. Every time a professional uses your product to do something cool, boom! You get what amounts to a free celebrity endorsement. Take this latest Canon press release. Apparently the opening to this new season of Saturday Night Life was shot entirely in 1080p video. In order to attract less attention and shoot in tight areas, the Canon Eos 5D Mark II and Eos 7D Digital SLR cameras were used.

The intro features a variety of shots from around the city of New York. The director didn't want to have to set up a large shoot and disrupt the reality of any of these shots. By using these portable Canon cameras, they were able to get 1080p footage without having to be too disruptive. This is just another piece of evidence for how incredible portable video shooting technology has gotten these days.

Canon Unveils First Mac-compatible Scanners for Business

Canon has unveiled its first Mac compatible scanners for business users. The company has unveiled a pair of scanners called the imageFormula DR-2510M and DR-2010M scanners for high-speed document scanning. The scanners are aimed at home, office, and educational use.

Both scanners use a Mac TWAIN driver and have bundled CaptureOnTouch one-touch scanning software for Mac systems. The software allows one-touch scanning directly to email, printers, network folders, and applications that can send images to the iPhone. Read more

Canon Unveils New Printers for Home and Office

Canon has announced three new printers for its Pixma line including the MP990, MP640, and the ix7000. The Canon ix7000 is a printer that is aimed at office users offering the ability to make professional looking documents and reducing printing costs. The printer handles paper as large as 11 x 17 or 13 x 19. The ink used in the printer is clear and there are five pigment tanks to color it. The printer sells for $399.99.

The MP990 and MP640 printers are both all in one designs that are intended for home users needing to print photos and other items. Both of them feature Auto Photo Fix II. Canon also added a new photo printer to its line called the Selphy ES40. Read more

New Canon 64GB Camcorder Vixia HF S11 and Canon G11 Touchscreen Camera

Today Canon announced the launch of two new high-end products. The Vixia HF S11 Dual Flash Memory camcorder contains 64 GB of flash memory, which gives you up to 24 hours of actual high-def recording time. It also has SDHC support, so you can also record data directly to removable drives. This new Vixia also comes with an 8 megapixel camera, and features face detection and instant auto-focus.

The HF S11 is definitely one of the sweeter camcorders out on the market. The ability to record a full day on the internal drive is incredibly nice, and should prove convenient for serious travellers and amateur filmmakers alike. Be forewarned though; at $1,499, this is definitely not a low-cost recording option.

Canon Launches New Pixma and Selphy Printers

Canon has announced a couple new printers for users looking to print photos and more. The new Pixma MP560 Wireless Photo AIO printer is the most compact Canon inkjet printer to feature wireless and auto-duplex printing. The printer is also the first from canon to allow printing of images directly from USB flash drives.

The MP560 can print a borderless 4x6 in 39 seconds and uses five individual ChromaLife 100 ink tanks. Other features include a 2-inch LCD and the printer will retail for $149.99. Canon also unveiled a Pixma MP490 AIO that uses four ink cartridges and offers a 1.8-inch screen for $99.99. Read more
