ASUS Debutes Wireless HDMI at CeBIT

Topic:

ASUS Debutes Wireless HDMI at CeBIT Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review ASUS was showing off something very interesting for the home theater lovers at CeBIT this year. How does Wireless HDMI grab you? The mere though of being able to connect my HD projector to my HD cable box without wires makes me giddy as a school boy on field day.

The wireless HDMI transmitter/receiver is said to cost about the same as 10m of high-quality EMI-shielded HDMI cable, but that is as precise as they get on pricing. We can assume that we are talking about somewhere in the $100 to $150 range for the system. Read more

Victorinox cleaned CeBit from Swiss Army USB Knife Knock-Offs

Topic:

Victorinox cleaned CeBit from Swiss Army USB Knife Knock-Offs Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review Famous Swiss pocket knife maker cleaned out several booths of Asian exhibitors who pirated the already classic swissbit USB Swiss Army knife.

Apparently seven companies had a visit from German Police. Two booths have been cleaned out completely.
Trade-shows are apparently the best way to do something against copy-cats.

If the copies look like they are from Victorinox it is bad for the consumer. If you buy a Swiss pocket knife you want it to be made in Switzerland with associated quality.

CeBit 2007 Booth Babes / Hostessen Photo Gallery Round-up

Topic:

CeBit 2007 Booth Babes / Hostessen Photo Gallery Round-up Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review The CeBit 2007 is over and had with 480,000 visitors 10% more than last year. One reason might be the apparently increased number of hostesses (aka booth babes).

At CeBit 2006 it was more like bring your own booth babes for photos.

This year I found several great photo galleries of CeBit booth babes.

The photo on the left (keep your eyes on the Flybook) above is from the German site ChannelPartner who features a 5 part gallery of CeBit 2007 hostesses.
The sneaky guys even hid an Easter egg (CES booth babe photo) in the 5th gallery.

Find more links to CeBit 2007 Booth Babe photos below.

CeBit 2007 already very Successful at Half Time

Topic:

CeBit 2007 already very Successful at Half Time Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review The largest IT trade-show is off to a good start. At half-time the CeBit 2007 has 10% more visitors then 2006.

This is quite a success considering that the show misses several high profile exhibitors. Over 200,000 visitors have already been at the CeBit this year. The show ends on the 21st.

On the other hand the economy in Germany is in good shape again. Being an IT focused trade-show the CeBit 2007 also benefits from the recent Microsoft Windows Vista launch.

To enhance its value, the WEP 420 comes packaged with a uniquely designed charger cradle that may be used as an interior decoration item (very B&O).

New Samsung Q1 Ultra UMPC at CeBit 2007

Topic:

New Samsung Q1 Ultra UMPC at CeBit 2007 Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review
Samsung introduced an updated version of its Q1 UMPC (Ultra Mobile Personal Computer) dubbed Q1 Ultra.

This is one of the worst product names in a while. Naming a product that already has Ultra in the product category name is very weird. Why not call it Q2? The form factor and the additional buttons are making the Q1 Ultra different enough from the Q1.

Samsung even headlined the Q1 Ultra in their CeBit micro site with "The Ultra Experience". We have to worry that the Samsung marketing department is overdosing on the word Ultra.

Commodore Gaming launches Sick Beige Gaming PC at CeBit 2007

Topic:

Commodore Gaming launches Sick Beige Gaming PC at CeBit 2007 Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review Commodore Gaming launched a line of gaming PCs with bold case designs at CeBit 2007.

The company owning the Commodore brand tries to leverage the Commodore sentimentality of consumers who owned a C64 or VC20. I owned a C16, C128 and still have a VC20 in my treasure chest. The VC20 is actually my first mod. I added the missing reset button. Still, I do not feel any attachment or even trust into something that is branded Commodore today for state-of-the-art gaming performance. They need to prove themselves to be up to snuff compared to Dell's Alienware and other custom gaming PC outfits.

I like the Commodore's C-Kin custom skinning concept. To show though that you are a Commodore addict you need to pick the C64 "sick beige" as case color and not one of the colorful and pretty skins.

Apple to show iPhone at CeBit 2007?

Topic:

Apple to show iPhone at CeBit 2007? Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review Apple has not been exhibiting at CeBit since 1999. Heise (German) reported today that Apple is exhibiting at the special show lifestyle@CeBIT.

Apple is supposed to show the iPhone, Macs and iPods. At least this is what the CeBit organizer Deutschen Messe AG is saying.
In an update to the Heise story, an Apple spokes person says that Apple is not taking part in the lifestyle@CeBIT show and throws in that the iPhone will be available in Europe at the end of the year.

So what is going on? CeBit needs some good news after the reports appeared end of 2006 that the number of exhibitor is declining.

CeBit Apparently in Trouble

Topic:

CeBit Apparently in Trouble Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review The World's largest computer trade-show CeBit is apparently in trouble as large companies stay away in 2007.

The CeBit in Hannover Germany needs a redesign to not loose ground to the now yearly IFA in Berlin. The driver for this is an anticipated 15% revenue loss for the CeBit 2007, as major exhibitors like Nokia, BenQ, LG and Motorola are not showing up.

The idea is to make CeBit more attractive to professionals again to improve efficiency for exhibitors. The computer show is also getting shorter in 2008. Read more

CeBit 2006 Booth Babes: Bring Your Own?

Topic:

CeBit 2006 Booth Babes: Bring Your Own? Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review You know we always take a look at the booth babes aspects of trade-shows. The CeBIT in Hannover is not actually known to be a hotspot for scantily clad models in flashy outfits.

I have not been personally at the CeBIT since years and also do not find it necessary to send reporters there. There are just too few globally relevant technology announcements. I only found a handful of CeBIT 2006 booth hostess photos published. Not even Flickr has some. I cannot proof it a 100% but it looks to me the photographers brought their own models. In the photo above from AP (hi-res version on Spiegel) and on the Getty Images photo below (hi-res on BBC News) you see the same 103 inch Panasonic Plasma with different photo models.
The dresses the models wear is also coordinated with the image shown at the TV. This looks like a setup. Anyway if you have been at the CeBIT and focused on the important aspects and made photos of them feel free to email them to me. Read more
