Survey: GPS More Desirable in Cell Phones than Internet Access
A new survey from Leo J. Shapiro and Associates has shown that most cellular phone users want GPS in their next handset more than Internet access. The survey sampled 450 Americans and found that 24% want GPS in their next phones and 19% wanted Internet access.
"GPS is displaying a rapid and unusual pattern of diffusion," adds Owen Shapiro, Vice President of LJS. "Our research is finding the purchase and use of GPS-enabled devices is not confined to segments of the population in which 'early adopters' are generally concentrated -- the young, highly educated or affluent. Today's GPS-enabled devices are being widely adopted, including among the middle-aged and elderly. As this breakout unfolds, we expect intensifying marketplace competition among the incumbent and newcomer brands as they race for dominance in this explosively growing market." Read more

Get ready for Ads on your Cell Phone
By Astrid Wendlandt
PARIS (Reuters) - Your cell phone may be one of the last spots around that's
relatively free of advertising -- but not for long. Media and advertising
companies have found a way of latching on to people's handsets by beaming ads to
them via Bluetooth, the same technology used in some hands-free headsets.
Here's how it works: When you're standing less than 10 meters away from a
Bluetooth interactive billboard, window display or concert hall booth, you'll be
asked if you want to switch on your Bluetooth function and accept a file. That
file could be a video, a song or an offer of rebate coupons.

Ugly $310,000 Cell Phone from Vertu
I have never seen a cellphone worth $310,000, yet that is what Vertu is trying to sell its Signature Cobra phone for. The phone has nothing cool or interesting listed feature wise, and the only real reason for the price is all the jewels that adorn the phone.
The phone is covered by a gold cobra that is crusted with one pear cut diamond, one round diamond, two emeralds eyes and 439 rubies. Personally, I would be afraid to carry the thing around as I am prone to leave my phone wherever I happen to be standing. Read more
