AT&T Unveils LaptopConnect Lightning Modem

AT&T has announced a new LaptopConnect Lightning modem from Sierra Wireless that is set to hit on November 22nd. The modem offers access to HSPA data speeds of up to 7.2Mbps download. That is a considerably faster download speed than is currently available in most areas and is meant to hold us over until LTE debuts in 2010/2011.

The modem is a USB device designed for laptop use and has a swiveling USB connector that allows it to be used in portrait or landscape modes. The device is pre-loaded with AT&T Communications Manager 7.0 software to manage connections. Read more

T-Mobile WebConnect Price Drop: Good Till Jan 12

If you've been looking for a wireless 3G service to take on the road with you, T-Mobile might be the carrier to go with. They don't have the best wireless coverage, but they are successfully undercutting all of the competition. According to T-Mo News the carrier giant just announced a price drop on their WebConnect plans.

Netgear Stora Offers Internet-connected Storage

Netgear has announced a new internet connected storage device for consumers called the Netgear Stora. The NAS device for home users is a place to store media in a localized manner and is ideal for music, movies, photos, and other files.

The device can be managed and accessed online through a MyStora interface and files can be accessed from any Internet connected device online. That includes smartphones and laptops. Stora is compatible with Mac, Windows, and Linux operating systems. Read more

Sony Reader Daily Edition With 3G Connectivity Unveiled

Sony today announced the third member of its new Reader family – the Reader Daily Edition, a wireless eBook reader with 3G connectivity. The Daily Edition caps its new line of Reader products, joining the Reader Pocket Edition and the Reader Touch Edition which were announced earlier this month.

Like the Amazon Kindle Sony does not charge a service fee. The 3G connectivity is delivered by AT&T.

Netgear Home Theater Internet Connection Kit Launches

Several of my home theater components can connect to the Internet with wires. The problem is that my modem and router are in a different room and running cable to the entertainment center is a big problem in my house.

HP Unveils Web-connected Home Printer

HP has announced a new printer that is hailed as the world's first web-enabled printer. The reason for the web connectivity is to give users access to popular digital content. The large touchscreen is used to browse content online.

People More Mobile And Connected Than Ever.

When you've got a smartphone, you're always connected to the Internet. You can check the news, send off emails and shop, all from the comfort of your own pocket-PC. Until recently, I assumed that being permanently connected to the Internet was something that most people weren't yet ready to pay for or endure. I was wrong; 51% of mobile phone users access content from their phones on at least a weekly basis.

What's really interesting is how often the average phone user uses his phone to access content. The 51% that have access to mobile content spent more time browsing the Internet and checking their email than the average user does texting (39 minutes as opposed to 38). They only spend a little less time surfing than they do talking (44 minutes).

Laptop Magazine spent some hands on time with T-Mobile's just released and very first USB laptop modem. The modem is called the webConnect USB Laptop Stick and sells for $49.99 with a 2-year contract.

The data plan is $59.99 per month with a cap of a pathetic 5GB per month. I still can't believe that consumers pay for a service with such a low bandwidth cap per month, you can seriously blow 5GB in a day simply updating your drivers. Read more

Apple connected HDTV with DVR Rumor

We first reported about a rumor that Apple would enter the TV Business with a connected HDTV last October.
Connected TVs are the latest trend for TVs as seen at the CES 2009.

Yahoo announced that a preview for its new iPhone application oneConnect is now available. The software is a type of social address book that brings a circle of friends, communication, and social networking into one application.

The program is available via the Apple App store now and will be offered for other devices in the coming months. AT&T Launches USBConnect Mercury 3G Modem

AT&T Wireless has announced its latest USBConnect 3G modem called the Mercury. The Mercury is the smallest, and lightest of AT&Ts USBConnect devices. The Mercury has the connection manager software needed to operate preinstalled on the modem itself.

It is compatible with Windows Vista, XP, and 2000. Mac users can take advantage of the device with Sierra Watcher software for Macs. The Mercury is capable of downloads from 700 kbps to 1.7mbps and upload speeds of 500 kbps to 1.2 mbps. iPhone 3G Connectivity Issues, Steve Jobs responded?

The complaints about 3G connectivity issues still continue to make waves this week. MacRumors reports that one of their users claims to have received an email response from Steve Jobs to his complaints about his 3G connectivity issues on the iPhone.
The email says that there are bugs that affect 2% of the shipped iPhone 3G phones and that Apple works on a software update to fix them. Read more

We first talked about the HP MediaSmart Connect back in May when it was originally announced. What we didn’t know back then was when the device would be available to purchase. Today HP announced that the MediaSmart Connect is available for pre-order.
